What We're Watching - September
It's like we never left. We're still watching videos every day, and here are a few that we think you should watch as well.
ETHAN JOHNSTON - TREVOR DARE - RED CAR THEORY
I was super excited when this video dropped, the crew line up is absolutely insane. Very happy to see more from Leo Cienfuegos, I saw his part in “I’m thinking” for the first time a year or so ago and it’s one that I rewatch quite often, he has such good style and good spot selection, I think he’s super underrated and I hope more comes from him soon. That big Ollie over bump to bar to curb bash was so good. Everyone else’s footage was really good but the other standout for me was Ewing Ayala, I hadn’t seen much from him before but had to go and find all his footage once I finished this one. He’s so versatile, he’s got good wallride tricks, manuals, he’s pretty tech and he will go big. That switch wallride shuv out on the bank to wall was sooo good, I’ve never seen that before but it makes so much sense as a trick. Cambryan has such a good style, he makes going big look so cool. He has like a blank stare when he’s riding at a trick where he almost just seems like what he’s doing is nothing. Avi Malina makes me want to do a street laser flip. Great video all round awesome squad. - Ethan
RYAN VIERTEL - BRONZE56K - TRUST
Easily one of the most important skate videos for me. It came out at the perfect time, I’d just started skating a couple years earlier, and was only privy to “the big ones”. Pretty Sweet, Plan B True, etc. This showed me what skating could be. It was fun, strange, crunchy, and so many other things. I didn’t know a single skater in this video when I first watched it, so it’s rather fitting that so many of them turned out to be my favourites over the years as I grew to learn more about skating, and my own taste.
If I remember correctly, I believe around 2014/15; Seb Rinaldo posted a video on Instagram, skating to Drake’s “Know Yourself”, and I was convinced it was from a skate video, I hunted and hunted and stumbled across Trust. Rob Gonyon skating to that song for about 45 seconds is literally my favourite piece of skateboarding ever. That is also the extent of my knowledge of Rob Gonyon as a skater or person. I couldn't tell you a single other thing.
Everything has already been said about Bronze, but to say it again, there is something so special about watching some mid 2010’s, interlaced VX footy, stretched to fit an HD ratio, with some fried ass b-roll and some truly insane song choices. This one has my heart, fully.
P.S. If anyone has a link to the Shawn Power’s Jenkem Day In The Life can you please DM me.
SAM FAIRWEATHER - JACK SPRINGER PEPPER
That youtube boy got it like that.
CHARLIE TOGNINI - LILIAN FEV - RASSVET - BLUE
Lilian Fev’s ending part in 2024 full length Blue from Russian founded, France operated and Japanese fashion house backed Rassvet is a spectacular display of modern skateboarding. The approach he’s taken to spot finding is super cool including skating a stop sign, trees and he holds a front nose slide on a drop down ledge that left me flabbergasted the first time I saw it. Fev also possesses a beautiful backside flip that is an absolute pleasure to watch. Bonus points for the fact that he’s dressed incredibly well throughout the whole video with arguably not one bad fit in sight. Honestly the whole video is great - but if you’re in a time crunch just watch Lilian Fev’s part you won’t regret it.
NOAH FUZI - LAST RESORT AB - CRUISE & INDY'S
When a new video comes out and it’s just exactly what you feel like watching, there’s really no better feeling. I loved everything about it: the skating, the music, the editing, no notes.
A bunch of timestamps below because I couldn’t just do 3.
0:18 - Love the cheeky special fx moment at the end here
2:40 - can’t go past a finger flip variation in the streets and in the yellow tee too, so fresh
4:38 - Chris is so inspiring - he's just so gnarly & I love how he can go from this to mannys so seamlessly
8:09 - Cruise is the best and this moment is so raw. I actually got to skate with him a bunch when I was in the US back in 2016. So watching him explode onto the scene has been so sick. He was always good & now everyone knows
0:54, 1:26 & 5:36 - extra love for the b roll hits throughout
JETT DEHAAN - FORMER - AUSTYN GILLETTE'S RADIANT CURE
LOGAN DAVOREN - COME SUNDOWN - JUZZY
Such a good little vid full of tasteful skateboarding and unique approaches to Newcastle spots.
