The Olympics Are Off

It's become almost inevitable that the Tokyo Olympics will be postponed until at least 2021, with Australia today effectively ending the chances of sending any athletes – including skateboarders – to Tokyo this year.
"Australian athletes should prepare for a Tokyo Olympic Games in the northern summer of 2021," the Australian Olympic Committee said in a statement.
It said the Australian team "could not be assembled in the changing circumstances at home and abroad".
The measures come, of course, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Canada earlier announced it will refuse to send athletes to Tokyo if the Games are held, with a swathe of other nations expected to follow suit, effectively ending any chance of the Games taking place as scheduled.
It's yet to be determined what this means for skateboarding. With qualification events almost wrapped up already, it remains to be seen whether the current qualification positions will be used to determine spots on the Olympic teams, or if future qualifying events will be considered in the lead-up to a potential 2021 Olympics.
