Sydney Park Update
Sydney's hotly-anticipated new skatepark is well on its way to completion, with the facility expected to be up-and-running by mid-2020.
The large-scale skatepark at Sydney Park, St Peters, has been plagued by delays since it was originally approved in 2016. Construction finally began late last year, and progress has been steady since then, with an eye toward completion sometime around June this year.
Councillor Linda Scott has been a vocal supporter of the park – along with other recently-constructed facilities like Sydenham and Meadowbank – and has been pivotal in orchestrating the city's recent skatepark boom.
“Skating is fun, healthy and could go on to win Australia an Olympic gold medal one day,” Cr Scott said. “Sydney has long been short on all sporting facilities, and I’m working to fix this - starting with skating.”
The building crew at Concrete Skateparks have been updating us periodically with progress videos, the latest of which is below. The best news of all? Sydney Park is a stone's throw from our new retail HQ, which we'll be opening in the very near future. Stay tuned on that front.
Once completed, the skatepark will feature:
- A traditional skate zone suitable for all skill levels and disciplines, featuring a combination of street and bowl style obstacles
- A linear plaza zone featuring low-level obstacles for street style technical tricks
- A beginners bowl for new skaters
- A flow bowl varying in depth from 1.5 to 3m for intermediate or advanced ability
- New landscaping and lighting
- Footpaths and picnic areas
