The revamped World Surf League kicks off tomorrow on the Gold Coast, as the world's best go head-to-head in the annual season-opening Quiksilver Pro. Gabriel Medina took top honours in last year's event, and it wasn't the first time that a Gold Coast winner went on to be crowned world champion.
