PICKS OF THE WEEK - JULY 27
Ethan - Quasi - Grand Prairie
“I've been re-appreciating the Quasi full lengths since Hard Reset came out and I struggle to pick between this one and Simulation but the fact there’s a Bobby section in this takes it up to the top, I have to replay his ender at least 3 times every time I watch it. The switch from Dane’s opening part going pretty big skating to Lexo and the Leapers into Bobby skating Toronto plazas to theatre of nature was beautiful. I love that Chrome track they used also.
The Gilbert and Jake footage was all great and I think Josh Wilson has a really underrated section in this video, some of my favourite skating from him. He always skates really interesting spots. His ender before the faceplant is really sick.
I believe this was Justin Henry’s pro part and it’s still my favourite part from him I think. He skates everything and his varial heel down the three block reminds me of why I love that trick so much.
Overall this video is so fun to watch every time. There isn’t a bad song in it, the spots are phenomenal, the b-roll of Gilbert getting attacked by the dog, the foundation prank, the POV taco bite and the mother and son talking about bondoing make every part of the video so fun to watch.
Most companies have such bland b-roll, that I think including all 30 minutes of actually interesting and fun b-roll at the end of the video is so great, and has become one of my favourite parts of their videos. Quasi is maybe my favourite company around today and their videos reinforce it every time I watch them.”
Ryan - Brad Cromer - Huf - Forever
“I come back to Huf’s Forever video pretty regularly, and often skip around to whoever’s part I’m especially keen on. Mason and Cyrus’ part are both phenomenal, and have wracked up quite a chunk of my screen time, Caleb and Dick will get put on occasionally, but I usually find myself skipping to Sully’s part and watching that as an entree to my main course. Brad’s part.
I love this part so much. I had already listened to Arthur Russell a little prior, but this part was the reason I really fell in love with this music. There’s a smoothness and subtle melancholy that I find in both the music and the skating. I truly don’t think there is a bad Brad part out there. I first watched his Transworld Outliers part in which he skates to Modest Mouse, and his Krooked Half Moon part in which he skates to the Lemonheads and Ween. He's done some of my favourite tricks and his parts introduced me to so much great music. I do think that the sequence, starting at 25:10 and ending at 25:39 in Huf Forever, is my favourite sequence of clips from Brad. The editing in this video is fantastic, and I think it really does compliment his skating so well.
Thanks Brad, I love this part.”
Ske - Aerosol
“I don’t watch much skating, I’m sure everyone has said the Aerosol vid haha”
Logan - WKND - Caleb | Evan - Welcome to WKND
“Such a well put together Am vid, there are so many good tricks in there its hard to choose. Evan’s backside tailslide shuv at 2:15 and the 2 Caleb clips starting at 3:16 are my favourites.
Sam - New Balance Numeric - Southerly
“I haven’t been watching much skating since I’ve been injured, but that new NB# number because Liv’s got some mad features in it.”
