DREAM2021MOVIEVILLE
When the VX1000 became broadly accessible in the late-2000s, a series of truly independent skateboard videos – Happy Medium, Boyish, Cosmic Vomit, et al. – marked the beginning of a great shift in the skateboard industry. While the importance of these films in sparking the small-brand boom deserves its own essay, it's interesting to note a similar trend returning alongside broader access to P2 cameras – namely the HPX170 and HVX200. Michael Nicholas's Untitled is a hallmark recent example of this new independence movement, and in that vein comes Tristan Warren's DREAM2021MOVIEVILLE, a similarly exciting, markedly fresh take on LA skateboarding from the lens of the P2 camera, with a largely unknown supporting cast and a strong youth-driven authenticity. It feels as though the kids are beginning to take skateboarding back. We can only hope. Kudos, Tristan.
