What SD card?
Just a quick question, what speed/size SD card should I get?
Looking at SanDisc and what mb/s do you recommend for HD filming on DSLR, and general DSLR photos.
Standard class10, or 30mb/s, 45mb/s, 95mb/s (way too excessive im guessing)

i got a 16gb class 10 one of those but i have 4 of them but i will usually run out of batteries before i fill them all up with my dslr
i use 2 8gb for my go-pro also class 10.
Whatever you do, don’t get Patriot cards. They are cheap and fast, but I had two break whilst removing them from my camera. WTF?
I thought the first was a fluke, but after the second one when I lost a whole photoshoot, I said never again.

Class 10 means they operate at close to a constant 10MB/s.
Manufacturer claims of higher are not accurate and don’t give much guidance to how they will perform in your camera when taking photo or video.
Any claims of higher data rate are peak speeds, they only have to peak momentarily not maintain them.
There is read speed and write speed. The speed printed on marketing material or the card itself are usually read speeds, you aren’t always provided with write speed as it’s lower.
SanDisk aren’t the worst nor are they the best. They do sell some of the cheapest class10 cards (designed for smart phones) But like so many other brands in so many other markets they often provide misleading information.

Who knows what speed is considered broadcast quality?..... Yeah, I though so.
The speed of the highest quality on Vimeo is 39Mbs or 4.9MBs

Your question asked about mbs. I think commonly mbs would be considered Mbs or Megabits/second.
SD cards speeds are referenced in MBs or Megabytes/second.
I made the assumption you were talking MBs.
My advice is don’t put all your files on one card. I don’t like to put all my eggs in one basket.
Also I’ve found as cards get full they slow down.
More small cards are safer. Better to lose half your files than all your files.
It’s a pity less 8GB cards are being made these days. Or even 4GB.
If your doing stills only a Class 4 will do the job as long as it’s quality.
The biggest consideration is whether the card will fail - not how fast or big it is.
I agree with spaz on the, don’t use one large card, use a few smaller ones,
I have 4 x 4gb, 1 x 8gb, 1 x 32gb all sdhc and I have 2 x 32gb mirco SD and 1 x 8gb micro SD.. (for my gopro 3 and my tablet..)
and I usually shoot one day, then copy the files off.. I’d rather not fill my 32.. Then have it corrupt and lose a week or so worth of videos/photos…
I’ve had many people approach me asking if I can get their 32GB card to work (maybe half dozen) - that came out of their GoPro2. 99% were using the card GoPro suggested or what the store told them to use with it. Most of them were 75% full and minimal files could be easily rescued. I couldn’t even formate them.
From my stock I’ve had about 4 fail - I’ve used approx 100 SDHC over 3 years.
All 100 were class 4, 4GB. I’ve used them to record 1080p.
The 32GB card my dad insisted on getting cost $170 from DickSmith - it locked up the second we put it in the camera.
From my supplier a 32GB SDHC card worked flawlessly, back then it cost $130, now 2years old. I only use it when needing to shoot constantly for a few hours as a backup footage.
Never had an issue with micro SD. Until mid 2012 they only came in class 6. I always buy the smallest they supply, just now they stopped selling 8GB. So I’m having to get in 16 & 32. Customers all want 32GB or 64GB but refuse to spend whats necessary for a good card. Generally I supply the card at cost with a sale to make sure the customer gets quality.
CameraHouse sell good cards, a 32GB costs well over $100. You do get a lifetime recovery service with it.
what Spaz says. AND… when you get the images off your card, reformat your card. Each Time…it helps with that “keep the speed up to scratch “issue. Our cameras all us CF cards though, and just the vids that use SD. Always go for the best and biggest you can afford

Pretty sure the price is the same whether SD or microSD.
Just noticed on my latest price list no SDHC listed (only micro) but with the adaptor it comes with, it works as SD anyway.

SanDisk Extreme Pro 8gb for $25 which I was happy with!
And also seeing I post lots of photos to instagram and tumblr (only starting) I thought I’d try out a wifi card.
Bought an Eye-Fi 8gb wifi card for $80 i think. fair bit higher in price, but I’m reallhy gonna enjoy using it! Instant posts to instagram while im still out skating round and taking photos
