SAVE THE DATE FOR HURLEY AUSTRALIAN BOWL-RIDING CHAMPIONSHIPS
Australian skateboarders will have the chance to compete in the second annual Hurley Australian Bowl-riding Championships (ABCTM), hitting the shore at Bar Beach-Empire Park Skate Park in Newcastle from 6-10 February 2013.
Presented by Hurley and recognised by World Cup Skateboarding (WCS), the all-ages Australian event welcomes skaterboarders from every skill level, age group and sex to sign up and compete. It is the only truly open and all-encompassing Nationals based event in Australian skateboarding history.
The competition will have four divisions; Under 16s, Open Female, Pro/Am Open, Masters 40+. Hurley Australian Bowl-riding Championships will have a prize pool worth $25, 000AUD.
In the first year of Hurley ABCTM Renton Miller took out the PRO title followed by Jack Fardell and RJ Barbaro – a killer top 3 Australian line up. In the MASTER final Mick Mulhall came in as Masters Champion followed by Pat Ngoho and Adam Luxford.
Ben Kay took The Dew AM Jam (under 18’s) title out with Jakob Robinson in second and Lachlan Abbot in third and in the Girls division the young Poppy Olsen took out first place with, April Caslick and Georgina Brooder closely following.
“We are all stoked for the second year of the Hurley ABC, it’s going to be a massive event with the largest Australian competitive field for a single event and thousands there to encourage and cheer them on. The winners gaining a wildcard entry into a competition with the International heavy weights always proves to be a motivation to contestants,” comments Frontside Events Director Chad Ford.
ABC is gives local talent a clear and direct pathway into the international professional competition circuit, which is something that has never been available to local talent before now. No longer will the tyranny of distance apply to making it as a pro in Australia.
Officially kicking off on 6th of February the Hurley Australian Bowl-riding Championships is again going to provide a wide range of entertainment to celebrate the competition as well as art and music events.
