NEED HELP ASAP PLEASE, base damage near edge ouch!

Avatar

Hey guys i need some help im not going to go into details of how this happened just call it bad luck and stupidity haha but seriously this sucks it’s my new Yes The Greats

I hear bad things about messing up the base near the edge obviously this isn’t going to be a regular ptex dip dip fix what am I gonna need here ? A miracle ??

Maybe a Ptex gun no?

My board has a few scars like that along the edges. I feel your pain!

I have just been toping mine up with ptex stick as normal. It doesnt stay in as well as say the middle of the board, but thats because the base around the edge cops a lot more workout than the middle.

Just take it to the shop and let the guys gun fill it and it will be fine. There is no actual damage to the edge or sidewall and there is no delaminating. So your fine, just get it gun filled for a more solid fill

Believe it or not I’m thinking of buying a gun how much better is it when u use a gun over the regular way?? It’s hold better right ??

I’ve never used one, but had one used on a board of mine. It definately holds way better! When done properly you can hardly notice the repair, besides colour. mine was on black so couldnt tell.

I suppose there would still be a fair bit of technique involved with a gun to get the best results. Hopefully someone who has worked with them can let you know

Just had a quick browse and from what I read if you use a gun, its extremely hard to just scrape the ptex down. It usually requires a base grind after repair. Shops have the stuff to do this obviously.

Brand new board is worth having someone do it for you right!

No matter what you do you can never replicate a base grind at home!

I reckon a gun would cost the same as having it done properly, and fingers crossed it will never happen again!!

Gotcha thanx for the info

I would take that into a tuning shop. They will do a much better p-tex job than you could do using the drip method. I don’t think it’s worth buying your own p-tex gun. Get the tuning technicians to do it for you.

Yep, Tuning Shop Time.

That board needs to be:
- trimmed back
-  filled (not with p-tex that you can buy off the shelf, good board techs use pro ptex and glues that aren’t available to the public)
- then base ground back to a smooth finish.

It’s not as expensive as u might think, and on top of your board being fixed, the base grind will make your whole board faster and give it a structure suited to the place you are riding (tell them where u are riding). And you will also get a fresh hot wax and the edges will be smoothed and sharpened by the base grind.

Basically your board will go in dead, and come out not just fixed, but riding like a new board. Totally worth it dude.

Will they give the board a base grind?????

I would think that they’d just grind back the area that was repaired????? The board’s brand new!!!!!

Sorry to hear about your Greats, Lester.

So here’s the thing, I can tell you how to fix this with p-tex, base weld (like p-tex but for edges and core shots) and a soldering iron - but by the time you’ve bought everything you need, you will have paid more than getting it fixed by a pro.

Thanx guys, I will most likely take it in

I hope it doesn’t have to be grinded down too much reason I’m saying it that the more they take, that’s that much more ptex and edge coming down basically increasing my chances of this happening again and easier every time ,more grind = less ptex and I have yet to find a great technician over here lots specialize in ski repair but snowboards not so much, all of them offer full service but only one has a actually snowboard base grinder hmmm so that leaves my options down to one. I hate putting a brand new board into someone’s hand. Guess I have no choice

And chucky your righ but that paying for it once verses me buying it once have the tools for good but guess the job will be done better by a tech hmmm

Does the 2013 Greats does not have the ultimate grip lester?

No not this years model I talk to Yes last week because I had a minor burr on the edge I spoke with them before messing with it they said it was too hard to tune but even without it no issues with grip

Figured I’d give you all a update, I took your advise as usual and it worked out great, I took it to a somewhat local shop about 45min-1hour drive but as I mentioned before I don’t have too many shops around here atleast not too many with actually snowboard base grinders. When I got there I spoke to the guy that does all the repairs and basically explained to him that this is a brand new board and if he do as minimal grinding as possible to not shorten the life too much on the board and same for the edges and he did just that only thing it the obvious color different but that’s all good as long as it works I’m all good. Only paid 30$ that’s cheap in my opinion

Thanx again for the advise

Looks Great! The colour is not so bad.

Have you ridden the board yet?
