WOW
ETA: the wow wasn’t about shaun - it was the snow!
im with you guys on the fact he shouldnt have got that 97, even 95 is too high i think, too much focus on one aspect of the run.
shaun is a really really good rider, but i personally think his “style” is absolute dogs balls, i really dont like it, he looks so tense and tight with everything he does (and wears).
i also dislike the sense of exclusivity i get about snowboarding when i watch his stuff, all to uptight for my liking.
mini rant over…
i now have to watch some grilc and torstein parts to get back to the soothing and exciting aspects of the ‘lifestyle’ i dearly love
Did he touch the ground…? cause you know that has got him a perfect score before!
I think he has good style, and he holds on to grab for so long it’s incredible. I think he doesn’t have the tweak it like hell style (think Kazu’s mcwtist, nico’s method, etc.),but good style regardless.
I just watched the tignes footage and man that was awkward!! I agree Dylan I feel like I need to go watch some other stuff to clear my mind of what i just saw!
Calling Shaun White awkward wtf…......he just did 3 double corks on one run on one vid (that won the Xgames and even if scored properly he still would have won ) and not to mention the biggest fecking airs ever in the pipe on the other vid.
0.53 on the first vid…....that hit is so damm massive. If anyone else did that everyone would say it was amazing, cause its white it doesnt even get a second mention.
I realise its the thing to do at the moment to hate Shaun White and he doesn’t exactly do himself any favours showing the footage in private jet etc, you might not like his style but calling his riding awkward, that’s a laugh.
I am not doubting the tricks weren’t impressive, but yeah to me it was awkward to watch. Sorry
Watching him in a half pipe is amazing! But that slopestyle just looked weird.
I guess we will have to agree to disagree!
I want to agree to disagree but feel you are just saying that but think I am an idiot.
I am not hating to hate Shaun, the best way I can describe it is maybe in the same way someone can be an amazing singer but has no stage presence?
That’s what I compare this to - there was nothing that captivated me to it.
As I said in the half pipe he is amazing (but still think someone who drop their hand should have not gotten a perfect score) he has charisma in the half pipe. But slopestyle meh…
I fully get that Oz. Perfect way to describe it - All we have really seen of Shaun in the past few years is his turning up at events and winning. While the small bits of his time outside of riding has been very self righteous.
Compare this to people like Horgmo or the Helgasons who share a bit more of their life and are always having fun, cracking jokes are doing dumb things for laughs.
The presence of Shaun is hardly entertaining.
I don’t know why everyone gets so upset when Shaun becomes a topic of discussion, no one has ever tried to deny Shaun as being an amazing rider with exceptional talent. But style is a personal taste - I can’t stand watching anyone who rides with a new school narrow stance or tight clothing, I just cringe.
As a comparison to Shaun’s style, you can find an old picture of Shaun back in his slope style days, where he did have style and hit features properly by googling “Shaun white c rail” and checking out the first result. I can’t link it because the image only exists cached in google.
I’ve seen this before, it’s gotta be the one you mean. Sick shot.
I think Shaun can ride with steez when he gives himself enough time practicing that style of event.
Let’s not forget most people only compete in one event. He currently competes in Halfpipe, Slopestyle (used to do big air) and skateboard halfpipe! That’s a different sport! And he WINS! WTF
He must have every minute of his life planned out for him by his coach.
I think style is something that only happens when you do a trick 100+ times AFTER you get it down perfect. And it also goes rusty when you haven’t done it for a while. Shaun only has time to get the trick nailed and move onto the next so he can keep up with guys who focus on one or two events.
I reckon if Shaun did only one event. You would see mad style from him. But he’s a jack of all trades. He’s the only one doing this and that makes him unique. This is why I’ll always have respect for him.
I’ve got no problem saying I prefer watching Torstein, Mark McMorris or Halldor for style in competition.
I agree, style wise Halldor probably has the best style. His method is super sick.
You’re gunna love this then:
Not just the “God Backflip” but also the…uh…. i guess you could call it a type of Miller Flip on that Joystick at the start.
Soooo sick!
Much better style!
I think Shaun White has good style, but I also think he is a machine of an athlete, which may be why people don’t feel much affection for him. His style is robotic pretty much, with not much of a personal element to it.
