hmmm yes…the landing part…haha. I only tried two of these today and have never tried them like this before (this was my first try and the second try was dismal) and I discovered its quite difficult to get the board back straight again after that. I’m definitely not ready to try them like that on a real jump with real consequences just yet, but it was super good to be able to try and get a feel for being in that position in the first place, which I would never have the guts to do, if not for the airbag!

haha thanks guys but I’m 100% certain those comparisons are some kind of blasphemy. lol

I’ll add in some super non-steezy frame grabs just so you realise you’ve got the wrong impression. haha

Cords I thought we decided you weren’t allowed to back away when people give you praise!

That method looks SICK!!!!! thats how you should do em! the tweak makes it a whole new move compared to the BS airs you were doing before.

Did dork tell you about me hitting an air bag because I thought that if he is doing it then I can…..and the gap was freaking massive and i only just made the bag. That air bag looks so fun.

He did. It is (in my opinion, anyway). You should come and ride it then. smile

Still having a cracking time over here. Spring is here now, for sure! Heaps of snow sliding off the roofs and what not. We will be lucky if we get much more snow, although we may get a little bit this coming weekend.

Got this snap of a snow barrel at work on the weekend:

There have been some perfect curvy barrel shaped ones of these throughout the season, and it has definitely kept me amused while I’ve been at work to mind surf them. Yes, I do know that I am a dork!

I missed out on a few weeks of my Swedish for Immigrants course cos we had visitors and various other reasons. When I went back again, I was given the comprehension, listening and writing tests for level C of the course (It runs from the easiest, A through to D). The comprehension and listening tests were fairly easy for me but I felt that I’d struggled a bit with the writing one. I had 45 minutes to write about an important day in my life - what happened, when, what made it so special etc. I wrote about my wedding day (yes I will pass you a bucket if you want one).

Went back to the next class and found out that not only had I passed with flying colours, but that they thought I was good enough to pass level D as well…which means I’m pretty much done with Swedish For Immigrants and I can start with Svenska som andra språk (Swedish as a second language) which I enrol in and complete as a distance student. I think I’ll still go to the SFI class once a week, because it is good practice for me to speak swedish all the time there.

Had an awesome moment in class last week, when the teacher wrote a sentence in swedish on the board, and then each person in the class wrote that sentence translated into their own language below it. It was so sick and super interesting because each person in the class was from a different country, so there was 6 different languages represented. There could have been a 7th but the girl from Thailand was in another room doing her exam.

Not the best photo, sorry but was the best I could do with my phone. Top one is Swedish, then Polish, Arabic, Lithuanian, Russian and then my English. For some reason I totally tripped out (in a good way) when Mohammed from Tunisia starting writing his arabic script from right to left. I felt so privileged to be a part of the class and have met these people. The point of the exercise was then to study the word order of the sentence and then see the similarities and differences between the languages (the red circle is where the word ‘drives’ comes in the sentence, the blue underline is where the word ambulance appears etc).

The riding side of things has been super fun, too. Will write more tomorrow! It is looking possible that we may get a visit from Crackers and Troutface early next week, as Crackers continues his swedish resort odyssey. I know Dork would be so stoked to get 2 of his 3 brothers here at once to check out where he is living, riding and working, so fingers crossed it can happen!

Riding update!

As always, riding our snowboards has been very enjoyable. On tuesday, we went for a little hike to try and find some soft snow…I won’t go so far as calling it powder, as it was only a few cm deep, but it was much more fun than riding the slopes, which are very crowded because of **Sportlov** at the moment. I had spied this area the week before and at that point it was completely untouched, but by the time we got there, there had been others who had tracked about 70% of it out.

Getting there involved taking the chair lift to the highest point, and then walking along a cross country skiing/snowmobile track. It was such a cool landscape up there:

Being up high enough and walking across a pre-prepared track was definitely my kind of hiking! haha

Most of the right hand side of the following picture is what we were aiming to ride:

After some fun riding there, we went to check out the little overhang/drop (and I mean little) on the right hand side of the above picture. Dork and I had two goes each and both failed abysmally. At least Declan has the excuse of having less than 20 days on a snowboard. The landing was just a bit too flat, though!

Here is a mini sequence I made from the gopro footage of Declan’s first attempt. Please excuse my poor photo cropping skills:

Then on wednesday after a bit of a late start because I was skyping my mumsy and then we were lazing around, we went for some park laps just down the road in Tandådalen. I had been thinking I would try to hit the 3rd (smallest) jump in the superpark and decided that it was sunny and no wind, so today was the day!

It is the hardest jump I’ve ever tried for a number of reasons. It don’t think it is the the jump with the longest gap between kicker and landing that I’ve ever done, but the kick is very steep after a quick transition from the landing of the previous jump and the landing is also very steep, which I’m not really used to. The kick also has a fair bit of schwoong in it, so if you push off, you get quite a lot of airtime. I was pretty scared, but after seeing this tiny kid on skis get this much air and land, I figured I had to give it a nudge:

This is how the bottom section of the Super Park is looking at the moment (there isn’t much more up the top)

I ended up having about 6 or 7 goes of the 3rd jump. Of those, I had two that I landed and then washed out on, one that I crashed properly on (I got compressed going up the kick and at no point in the air did I have my weight over my board, luckily I got my board down just before my butt upon craashing, though!) and the rest I made quite comfortably.
Here are two pics:

Thumbs up!!

Lastly, here is a pic of Decs the Dork trying to go up and nose tap this box!

**Sportlov is sports holidays. All school kids get one week off in february and the idea is that they go do something active, as the days are starting to get longer and they have been cooped up over the dark winter. Lots and lots of families take the week to go on skiing holidays.

More bizarre products available in sweden

I got these snack balls in Lidl (which is pretty much the same as Aldi). It was just over a dollar for 175gms. They are made out of corn & I was fascinated with the flavour combo. Turns out they are pretty nice!

Interesting name for a chocolate bar?

Finally got around to finishing editing, rendering and uploading the vid I started of our staff activities day that was in the middle of February.

The vid features a bit of snowboarding, playing around on the flowrider, and some of the best flowrider stacks of the day. Mostly made for the people I work with to enjoy, but I hope that some of ewes might enjoy it a bit too.
