Can the Highback be rotated on the ROXY bindings, h0z?????
I use Gnus with the fastec system thingy. They are ok, I don’t find them that much faster, 1-2secs at most and I hate having to flip the high back up before I push one footed, otherwise I end up tripping on the high back which lies out flat behind the board. Also, if you are sitting down for any reason (stacked in powder or whatever) they are nearly impossible to get into while sitting down (on the ground, not on a chair or anything!)
They were cheap, and I like that they maintain the same level of pressure every time, but I doubt I will get a rear entry binding ever again. Each to their own, though.
Seems to me that people take this sorta thing a little to serious on here sometimes. Sure if your going to be boarding everyday for a entire season or your going to be entering contests you’d want stuff that fits perfect and allows you to perform at your peak, but if your just a weekend warrior with a week here and there, or just past the point of being a complete newb and ride around the mountain with ease, i think that picking style over function SOMETIMES really isnt that big of a deal, atleast with bindings. Boots, im 100% behind getting a correct fit etc though.
When i first started i was all about style, and i have to admit, these days i still am a bit. Im like a bower bird and will pick up the brightest coloured option in the store first and then work my way back until ive reached a happy medium between style and function. Sometimes that means ill go with something with a few less features just because i think they look cool but I know I’ll never be pro or will enter contests but if its a quality made item and it fits me and my board decently then i think to myself really whats the harm.
So i think go for it, mix and match! Snowboarding is taken too seriously, its meant to be fun and if your idea of fun is a hodge podge of bindings then do it!

Yeh, trent isnt lying. He is bright haha cant wear anything but dark lenses when riding with him haha

Trent FTW!
I was trying to think of a reply to support Holly from all the negative nelly’s on here! You nailed it!
No I will never be that good but if I buy gear that functions as optimally as possible it’s going to make me ride better than if I took shortcuts on gear or bought something purely on an aesthetics basis that could possibly make it harder for me to progress. There is a fair degree of personal preference in how people like to ride and look and each to their own but two entirely different types of bindings doesn’t seem like a recipe for success as far as riding is concerned.
I do however empathise a little with the saying, “it’s not if you win or lose, it’s how good you look doing it” ha ha ha ha! With bindings though I want them to be as symmetrical as possible in flex and form and design, makes it easier riding switch I imagine. Perhaps on a directional snowboard for powder or something a very stiff supportive rear binding may be an advantage but I’m so far rom it being worthwhile to experiment in that regard it’s not funny.
But they aren’t really different.. They are both the roxy rock it bindings, just last years and this years, both with the fastec step in system..
And thank you Trent and oz!
I love to be bright and colourful too Trent!
I have the roxy 2012 olliepop.. Its virtually a rainbow! And pink pants with a white jacket and white googles with a pink lens.. And my other outfit is seasponge black pants, ( black with grey sponge marks all over it) and a pink jacket.. Then pink goggles with sliver reflective lenses.. Haha and my boots are white 32s with pink laces! I’m actually heaps colour co-ordinated! Lol

Good point northen, as thats the crux of the whole argument really isnt it. I know i made mistakes when i first started and bought a board that i thought looked awesome but really wasnt suitable for the type of riding that i wanted to do and im sure it hindered me in my progression but you live and learn. Im at the point now where at my age im pretty happy where my riding abilities are at and im realistic as to how much better they could get, ie i wont be throwing myself down gaps to back lips on 50 stair rails, so why buy a board/bindings that would allow me to do so, BUT that being said, my skills would still allow me to use those types of gear on the hill and still have a rad time even though im not using them for their intended purpose. I still want to progress though so i do make sure that when i do buy something, the gear will allow me to do so, but its not the be all and end all of my snowboarding goals and if i think 1 binding looks radder than another, id be more likely to get the radder looking one.
The style vs function argument is a hard one to give a definitive answer to, but like i said before, listen to all the advice you can but at the end of the day do what right for you and what YOU want to do. You are boarding for your fun, not for someone else….....or are you????? *insert dramatic music here*

1. learn to board
2. buy rad looking gear
3. ?????????
4. profit

This does however work both ways!!!!!
I consider myself a shithouse snowboarder, yet I also know what I like in a binding!!!!!
For example, if there was a binding that had a stiff flex (what I personally like) in a terrible colour that I despised, and there was also another binding that looked so unreal yet had the softest flex out of any binding on the market!!!!!
Yet these were my only two options due to whatever factors at the time!!!!!
I would have to pick the ones that I don’t like the look of!!!!!
The main reason bein, that if I chose the other binding, I know that I wouldn’t enjoy my time on the hill, and therefore I would be choosin to ride in “cool” bindings just for the sake of lookin good in front of others, and that would really spoil my fun!!!!!
Oh yeah,
1. learn to board
2. buy proper suitable gear, that if looks good is a bonus (and to be honest, there’s not a great deal of hideous gear out there)
3. enjoy ya time on the hill because ya gear is doin what ya want it to do
4. profit, and then profit again cause ya don’t have to go back and buy the gear that ya should’ve in the first place
Yeh, trent isnt lying. He is bright haha cant wear anything but dark lenses when riding with him haha
makes me easy to find in an avalanche
fixed!
I know a guy who rides for Tech9 in Canada (who also works for a board store). I wanted to buy a type of Tech9 Binding from him but the only colour they had was Lucas Magoons pro model, that he was trying to sell me. The whole high back was covered in Chucky graphics and just gross, and the colours would have been gross on my bright orange board.
He said he couldn’t really order bindings, but I asked him to order me some white ones anyway and I would wait for the next shipment.
He looked a bit annoyed that I was being difficult so I told him why, and straight away said “Oh, yeah I get it man, I’m the same”....
“If I don’t LOOK Gang, I don’t FEEL gang and then I don’t RIDE gang.” Hahahaha
I spent about an hour laughing about his mass amounts of steez when I left the store, but then realised what he said was profound.
If you feel good about rocking some fresh gear, you are gunna be stoked to get on the hill and probably ride your best.
I would never put fashion before function but I gotta say, I’ve never seen anyone get some new gear that hasn’t had a great day that day.
Snowboarding reacts heavily to your mood. A funky new jacket won’t make you land a new trick, it’s just a jacket. But it may adjust your mood enough to make you feel like a pro. And so, ride like a pro (at the top of your game).
I guess what I’m trying to say is FUNCTION and then FASHION. Because feeling good is what snowboarding is about right?

I agree Andy!!!!!
What you did was to select the right binding then opt to wait for the colour that you really wanted!!!!!
We went through a drama with Mrs Mizu’s binders for the same reason, but at the end of the day, it was Function then Fashion!!!!!
A lot of fart arsein around, but Mrs Mizu also got the colour that she wanted too!!!!! The best thing to see on her when she was ridin her new setup though, was her smile!!!!! Cause it all worked the way she wanted it too, and therefore she was havin a ball!!!!!
I got my board and bindings for the features.. My board is made by Mervin manufacturing, aka they make roxy, libtech, gnu..
I got it because it can be used for standard trail/piste riding and in the park if I wanted to.. ( probs not the best for huge powder) but doing tree runs I had no problem with it)
Its got magne traction for better riding on ice, and its got c2btx banana camber, and its twin tip.. Out of the 4-5 boards like this I looked at
. I went the most colourful one.. I almost got the roxy eminence, with virtually the same stats. But I love the design of this.. ( so I didn’t pick it just because I liked how it looked.. If not id be on the flow myriad from 2011, that was 1/2 the price and had the most awesome graphics on it..but lacked the features and the tech in the olliepop - as an added bonus im gona put a “H” sticker I front so its a holliepop- lol!!) Same with the bindings.. I looked at a few pink pairs.. But liked the features on the roxy ones I have.. So ot was black or white.. I went white to match my boots I was looking at..
