If you chucked your 1million in a bank account with a 5% interest rate, every year you would get 50k in interest. Thats almost what I make working. I could live off that and follow the snow around quite easily

Yea that’s true. Still, 50k per year = 20 years snowboarding without a job. (or buy a house in Whistler and work casually.)
Then I can work shit out later when I’m 46 and don’t have any money and become a snowboard instructor or something lol.
Knowing me, I’d probably want to do some part time or casual work anyway to make friends and socialise with everyone.
Hand it in most definitely. The sort of people who might have lost that amount of money are definitely not the sort of people I would want coming after me to get it. Even if it is unclaimed and comes back to you I would still have a small bit of worry in the back of my head that someone somewhere might come looking for it. If it did come back as unclaimed I would buy a pad for about $750k, then put a deposit on about 2-3 other units and try to neutrally gear them, in ten years time sell the units and retire.
