Another comparison video..

Wow, pretty considerable improvements there.

He should have used the dive housing for the HD2 to compare, thats kinda ridiculous in ways as the image distortion purely from the spherical port is taking away from the comparison of image quality. I like the 120fps, that was nice!

^^^ I agree totally!!!!!

Lovin the image from the 3 though!!!!!

mudhoney for what it’s worth i would keep your Hero 2, i have the original and a 2 and will probaby get a 3, think of the angles or backups. i’d prefer to have another of my crew ride with the old one or something… beats selling it and not getting much for it is all i’m saying. i know when i use ours for on car shots etc i chuck the old hero in just in case a mount fails and it gets run over wink

too late!  It sold on fleabay last night.  Got a good price for it so I’m happy.  I agree with what you’re saying but I wouldn’t be able to get it past the chief finance officer!

Plus, it’s always fun to watch the punters try to out-snipe each other in the last 10 seconds of a 5 day auction!

I don’t like to get rid of old camera gear either (even the broken stuff), and I often use the older tech as it tends to have functions that don’t make it to newer models.

I do sell off overstocked gear and there have been times I’ve regretted not keeping certain models once they become unavailable. Sometime no matter how good new gear looks on paper the older equipment has proven itself in the real world and functions better.

I think this is a step forward for GoPro only in certain areas - Flat Lens & inbuilt WiFi. But you can get a aftermarket flat lens (GoPro don’t make theirs anymore) and I’ve heard nothing about GP3 emitting a sound for on/off and if it doesn’t you will still be stuck wondering if it’s recording or stopped recording.

Oh, And the impressive Black Edition specs.

Yeah there will probably be some trade-offs, but better to go with the new one I think.  The smaller size and potentially better image quality are the main winners for me, and lower cost of entry for wifi.  Possible downsides may be battery life with in-built wifi (the wifi backpac for the 2 had its own battery) and the performance and cost of micro-SDHC memory cards.  I hadn’t heard about the beep for on/off, but I plan to be using the wifi remote so that should show me if it’s on or off.

That would be a step in the right direction if remote lets you know - it should being WiFi.

Image quality will be better only on the BlackEdition. Silver & White - the same accept for underwater use.
I can supply the microSD class10 cards wink at BWM discounted prices. Let me know when your shopping.

Mud

do you mind me asking what you got for it, i am thinking of selling mine as well lol and i only got it in january this year lol used it one.

sent you a PM lano.

Spaz - yeah would be interested in a microSD class 10.  The gopro3 can apparently take 64GB which is nice.

I tend to collect things too spaz. 1 gopro 1 and 2 gopro 2s..

(wonder if that means ill end up with 3 go pro 3s?? Haha)

But with the remote you don’t need the on/off beep, as the screen on the remote is an exact copy of what’s on your gopro, eg. If its recording, the length of the recording, the battery status, and the mode your shooting in.. I have the remote for the 2, and love it!! No more stuffing round with gloves to press the buttons.. And my music is that loud when I ride, I can’t hear the beep anyways lol!!

I’m looking I to ordering the 3 before Xmas! And the way I see it, I can lend my old 1 out, hold the 2 on a pole, mount one to my binding/leg/boot and put the 3 on my head as its the lightest, =)

jeepers, You’d wanna hope you’d be getting some footage worth having, if you were going to go to all that trouble to film and then edit!

As my snow boarding gets better I hope to!! This year was mainly happy snaps and a few videos to show mum and my friends, as for editing, I quite enjoy it, I watch tv or a movie while it loads then I sit down and chill while I edit, good on rainy days and days that are ridiculously hot over summer..

I brought my first gopro for filming my car cruises with my car club lol! =)

As I sit here and look around me I can spot 9 video camera’s all in working order (5 are HeadCams).
I’ve not done a count of my gear in a while - it must be upwards of 20 working, maybe 40 in total.

I’ve never hung on to a GoPro though!
If I had the need to purchase GP2 I still don’t think I could justify keeping it (there are some instances it could be used).
GP3black would currently be a keeper but as I’ve said in this thread; by the time it is available I’m confident of other brands having the same specs in a better package.
The Sony HDRAS15K ActionCam I would get because it shoots 720@120fps and is currently available.
And I’m pretty psyched about the JVC GC-XA1 ActionCam (Adixxion) also.
Then there is the Drift720 for under $200 which is the ideal camera for YouTube/Vimeo sharing.
