I’d rather buy local too mate, but I don’t think that warranty will be an issue unless Kogan goes bust?????
Maybe the WiFi is searching for the remote, hence why it runs the battery low when the remote is off????? Much like a mobile phone does????? (I’m presuming that the remote was turned off overnight?????)
Yes, you will have a warranty with Kogan, I never said you wouldn’t. It’s up to the buyer to decide if they’re happy with a Kogan warranty vs GoPro. Personally I paid about 10% more than that Kogan price and got GoPro warranty on Aus stock, and was able to support my local guy too.
re: Wifi, yeah maybe. One night I’ll leave the remote on and the cam wifi on and see if that makes any difference. I reckon I will still end up using wifi because it’s just so convenient.
Have ya got any footage to show yet?????
What’s ya first impressions of the image quality?????
Waiting on mem card, should have it tomorrow. Have also injured my back a bit so haven’t been out much. All reports I’ve heard so far say that the quality is really good.
I can say that I’ve played with the menus a bit and all the changes they’ve made there are spot-on. Operating it via the app is really nice.
No good about the back!!!!! Hope that doesn’t keep ya housebound for long!!!!!
Look forward to ya footage!!!!!
yeah the wifi is killer!! even the remote doesnt last long coz all it uses is wifi… im defs gonna get the battery backpack but im not too sure because i kinda want the screen? screen with backup batteries or just the backpack battery?? what are you getting Mudhoney??
Can’t ya use ya phone to view the footage, via the APP?????
That would virtually replace the screen BacPac????? Then ya could just buy extra batteries with the dough that ya didn’t spend on the screen!!!!!
yeah but there is a massive delay on what you see on the app, not that much of a big deal but i find is really annoying for some reason. also the app makes the remote that comes with it useless.
If i buy the screen i can place it in the right spot to get the shot and use my dslr at the same time and use the remote to record and stuff also i can view back the footage i got? still not 100% sure on what ill get but im not completely sold with the go-pro app :(

I think for now I’m just going to get 1 or 2 spare batteries, anti-fogs for the snow and some more curved and flat mounts since they’ve decided to skimp on those (and the straps) this time around. I might also grab some of the little lens caps. I don’t think I’ll do the battery bacpac as it will make the cam heavier and I don’t want the extra weight on my head (helmet-mounted) or arms (pole-mounted).
I am mostly planning on using mine at the snow, but since I have picked it up unexpectedly before Christmas, I’ll be able to take it to the beach in summer and might try to get a bit of snorkelling footage. Not sure what to mount it on for that, and might try to tether it to myself somehow so I can’t drop it down some 20m hole by accident.

When you say “view your footage”, do you mean live view or reviewing already shot video? I definitely does live view (with about 2.5s delay). Not sure about reviewing - will check it out when I get a chance.
One thing to note is that it looks like you can only pair either the wifi remote OR the app with the cam at one time (happy to be proven wrong here). If this is the case, it would be quite fiddly to swap between the two. I personally didn’t have many issues lining up shots with my GP2 so I think I’ll just be leaving mine on the remote.
There more I hear about user experience the more I don’t want to open my black edition! It just sounds like a hassle to use.
Why should anyone have to spend more to make it usable - battery life is a huge concern (though I learned to live with my iPhone 3) and when the remote goes flat I will use my phone as the remote. Then after replacing the camera battery twice I’ll be that person having to ask; “is it recording, is it on?” And “have I stopped it?” and giving the little head dip as I point to my head.
Apparently the battery does improve after its been cycled a great many times - I especially hope this is true of the remote because I’ll end up sick of mates who’s phones have died at 10am and I’m trying to meet up for a photo shoot or lunch.
And since a GPH3B sold overnight on eBay for $950 in Sydney. I might just get rid of mine and use Ghost when it arrives this week.
Mudhoney you are a rare individual who puts his money were his mouth is. Most people say they will support the Aussie $ but defend and promote OS sellers.
We are encroaching on Boardworld no OS policy; by saying GoPro is the better place to buy. Kogan does have .au but is still HK company the dollars don’t stay here - at best they stay in Asia but if going through correct channels - US.
Keep it closest to you as possible and buy from a BW member
I’m still waiting on my first GoPro order from a BWM.
Ok, so I can’t see any way to review footage via the app.
I did another battery test overnight leaving the cam’s wifi on (in wifi remote mode, not app mod), cam itself off. Good news - the battery still showed 3 bars this morning.
@spaz - I don’t want to give you the impression the user experience is bad - it isn’t. I think GoPro has done a fantastic job with the menus, all the new modes, the app and the wifi remote. The cam is also significantly smaller and lighter and supports higher quality footage. Unfortunately the battery drain is higher than it was in previous models, but it’s manageable. I’m an engineer and I understand there are trade-offs to be made when designing products, and I think GoPro has made the right choices.

Yeah, I’m only guessin that would be the case!!!!! It’d be interesting to find out!!!!!

Yeah, I never saw the lining up of a shot as an issue either, and that’s why I never did, and most likely never will buy the LCD Screen BacPac!!!!!

I couldn’t find a way to do it just mucking around in the app. The GP website does say the app can “play” video, so maybe they will add that in a future update.

Agreed - no need for the LCD bacpac. If I really need to line up a shot I’ll just use the app. Also, swapping between the app and remote isn’t as fiddly as I’d thought. Once the remote is “paired”, it’s quite easy to re-connect to it.

Good to hear, Mud!!!!!
Maybe ya need to put up a ‘GoPro 3 Tips’ Thread so others can share in some of ya findings?????
