Nah i think ill try and find work once i get there….unless you have any other tips (don’t want to go through a working holiday program).

Should i hit up the recruitment fair in Aus? or wait till i get to whistler? Trying to keep my options open for what job/s i might be able to pickup.

I’ve heard some people get a job then if they find something better do that. I’d be hoping to get something more in my profession but am extremely open to anything.

Thanks for the advice regarding checking out the gear in Aus at the end of your season, will definitely check it out.

Hoping as time gets closer eventually get to know some people maybe before i get there and teach me some things.

Time for a well overdue update from me, last week has been pretty busy with Christmas and New Years festivities.

Whilst the village has been really busy like most other years the hill hasn’t been anywhere near as busy as I remember it being previously. The longest we’ve waited to get on chairs hasn’t been any longer than a few minutes which has been great.

Christmas eve I went up the hill with Mitch and Bart and went hunting for some fresh snow which paid off with a stash that Bart knew of off 7th heaven. After a short hike we were rewarded with a great line all the way down to Sunset Boulevard where we were all left with a nice little drop down to the cat track.

Mitch dropping down from the trees to Sunset Boulevard.

Christmas Day I met up with a bunch of friends and went up for fresh tracks. Unfortunately there wasn’t any new snow but on the upside it left us with plenty of time to sit back and eat as much as we could. After around an hour or so we went out for a few laps of Red and Emerald followed by a short stop off for a few drinks in Finlandia which is a small area between Goats Gully and Pony Trail. It’s a pretty nice location that has a great view down to the valley.

Ganging up on the single skier in the group..

Cheers

After we’d finished hanging out at Finlandia we made our way down to Red chair via some cliffs and then went into Seppo’s for some Christmas drinks before heading to Dusty’s for some late lunch by which time we were all a bit rowdy. All in all had a great day and was nice to finally get to ride on Christmas day as compared to working like I have in previous years.

I’ve started back at work now and have been working on Peak chair which has been great with some amazing views.

Have been up the past 2 days which has been great, have got the knee brace off now and the knee is feeling great and I’ve noticed my riding is definitely better without it on as it’s quite restrictive to ride with. Even though we haven’t had any substantial new snow in the past week the riding is still great as the temps have been staying down which has kept the snow in great condition top to bottom with tonnes of side hits all over the place now, it’s a little icy in a few spots where there’s high traffic but overall it’s held up really well with the amount of people on the hill over the week.

Hope you’ve all had a great New Year and Christmas, once again if anyone wants to meet up mon-wednesday let me know as I’m up the hill then, otherwise from thu-sun swing by Peak chair and you’ll find me there.

Tuesday the 8th of Jan is my birthday so I’ll be getting a big group together for the day as we’re planning on riding every lift on both mountains which should be good fun so you’re all welcome to come along for the shenanigans which will no doubt follow. Although if it’s a powder day we’ll be hunting pow off peak chair instead.

Figured I’d been so slack with the updates that it was time for a big one.

Went up again today and had a bit of fun riding with some of the usual crew, did a few solo laps on whistler around Garb to get warmed up, cover as pretty firm but great for some high speed carving. Shot over to Blackcomb for the afternoon and got a few laps in the Terrain Garden which was good fun, they’ve got a good mix of small jumps and boxes along with a hip which are all very mellow but still good fun. Wanted to get a few laps in there to get a feel for the park again before heading into the main parks on my next days off.

I caught up with Shane when I first landed in Vancouver but have only seen him once since then and that was in passing when I was at work. He’s living back in Pemberton this Winter as compared to Rainbow so he’s not around quite as much. Hoping he’ll be able to make it out for my Birthday on Tuesday, just have to see if he’s got time off work.

Some great pics there of the fireworks Kyle, think it’s safe to say that the hike up was definitely worth it.

I went for a hike with a mate on Sunday along the Rainbow-Sproatt Flank Trail. Walked from Creekside to the cemetery a km or so away up north then headed up. Our plan was to hike it up to Sproatt Mountain (~1820m) but it’s unmarked and we couldn’t find an existing trail. Considering it was our first trek, I didn’t want to risk it and go up then get lost. So we basically just kept going and ended up in Function Junction, about 4 hours after we started at the cemetery.

Such good fun. It hasn’t snowed in ages so conditions for a hike were almost perfect. $15 for snowshoes and $5 for ski poles was the best $20 ever spent.
About a kilometre out from FJ, we came across a mad clearing with two plastic chairs along the trail. The whole hike was worth it pretty much for that little gem and this picture.  You can see Tamarisk below and Whistler Mountain in the background.

Woaaah, big picture! I’ll remove the image tags so it doesn’t kill peoples screens.

EDIT: Fixed image size for you - Box Head.

Pretty fun day today. Mostly just cruising, practicing a bit of switch riding and carving, did a couple of laps in the small park on bcomb.
