Got the Canadian BurnStreet riders together for opening day in Whistler. The weather was terrible, 100 km/h winds and wet snow, but we made the most of it.

Dropping In: #WhistlerUnfiltered
Once you’re here, on the Rooftop of the World, you do the only thing you can do. You tighten your boots, strap on the boards and with beating heart you Drop In. Responding to all that called you here, you ride it. Heart racing, wind in your face as you turn, carve and love every second of the exhilaration. More than anticipation, this is Whistler, Unfiltered.
Pretty stoked as the shot which Dan took of me from last season which I posted on my instagram was put in at 0:17
Yeeewww!!!!! That’s awesome finney!!!!!
It’s hard to report on how sick it is over here for early season without sounding like a bit of a douche…......so with that out of the way.
Its sick right now! still cant really ride out without the rock hopper but mid to upper mtn is caked. Garbanzo laps are pretty good but the snow is getting alittle edge grabby down the bottom. If your up early and get it fresh its still sick but if your battling through mush its not worth the empty chair line, so its better highter.
The classic red hit lap is on at full force. Most of the hits are shaped and not too filled in so you can send them a little. Also the bike tracks are pretty much rock free.
Harmony opened for the first time yesterday and there was a hint that peak would open today.
Harmony has been rad but still alot of exposed rocks down the guts due to wind. The trees and bowls facing the symphony side have been loaded.
The peak has remained outside the temp resort boundary due to the nightmare of marking obstacles. They have been bombing to maintain avi conditions but you have to hike from top of harmony and not recommended if you have to look up anything in the last sentence.
Blackcomb is always awesome but the alpine hasn’t opened. Today crystal chair was ride on all day according to a friend that didn’t battle the local filled harmony line.
Fraggle rock is good but not bombable and all the hits are forming on ridge runner and rock n roll.
The pillows on skiers left as you get back to excellorator from ridge runner are not really on, they are more the tops of trees.
No black park pass is needed this year but the helmet rule is enforced. The park is small on blackcomb and the hut/shack jump has been a little tangy, well before the snow it was. The whistler park has been down sized and a more teaching/family vibe is being promoted on that side.
All that being said its pretty sick.
Sorry got no pictures to load right now but I’m trying to update the @whistlersummercamps instagram everyday or at least when i have a good pic to post so check them out there.
Happy shredding!
Thanks for the detailed update Luke, the fact that you mentioned Hit Run is ready to go has me so excited it’s not funny hahaha
Interesting about the size of the parks and that there is no pass required for the XL park this year - I can see that as both a good and bad thing which could lead to a lot of major injuries from inexperienced people going in there. I’m assuming that there is no Terrain garden built yet to cater for the beginner riders which could explain the sizing of the features so far in the Whistler park? I know that Charles Beckinsdale has been building on Blackcomb so far this season going by his instagram feed so if he stays over there I’ll be riding there a bit more as the jumps he built last season in Whistler park were just perfect.
Just started following you on instagram I’m looking forward to some updates on there to get me by until I get over there.
Luke, totally agree! I’ve been here for a couple of weeks now and the morning runs are beautiful. I’ve never actually seen powder this deep and my riding is improving every day so it gets more and more fun.
I did prefer Blackcomb last week on the groomed runs but as soon as it dumped, Whistler rocks! This morning was brutal. Wind gusts of up to 120km/h which closed everything but Emerald chair. The gondolas stopped 3 times on my way up due to wind speeds and they didn’t even run Peak 2 Peak until later. It cleared pretty quickly though and actually turned out to be a great day. We did some tree runs for the first time which were epic. Well past knee deep snow.
Hurting now but can’t wait to get back out there tomorrow.
It’s finally hit me… I’m officially jealous!
Finney was saying to me that he is going to have Jeremy withdrawals this season, and that I have big shoes to fill. Only thing is I dont like wearing ice skates
