PARK / JIBBING board

Avatar

Hi Peeps

Well since i dont think i will be going to JAPAN this year i have decided to invest in new board. This time i am looking more in to park/jibbing board.

Few boards that i had in mind are :

1) http://www.lobstersnowboards.com/boards#boards_park_sa

2) DC PBJ 2013 or the PLY 2013

3) Yes Jackpot.

I was wondering if people can give me they opinions on what they thing is good.

Keep in mind i am quiet new to park/jibbing.

I have read few reviews on those boards however they are all quiet new and there is no much on them so i am asking for some help i guess.

Thanks

Lano

Hey Lannox
If this is a board primarily for Australia I would buy these boards in this order, if I were you:

1) DC Ply (It’s cambered with flat tips, IMO the best hybrid camber, DCs & Stepchilds sintered bases are awesome in slush! No other companies make bases this good. You will be faster than everyone else in spring)

2) Yes Jackpot (It’s camber wit rockered tip, the second best hybrid camber IMO, their sintered bases are very slight compared to DCs, so good, but not as good in slush)

3) The Lobster board. I’m not a fan of Triple Base technology, but if I were going to buy one, I would get their jib board, not their park board. Their jib board has a much wider center base area on the TBT. IMO the TBT makes the board ridiculously loose, so I would want the least pronounced TBT they make. I owned a board with their freeride TBT, and I took it back to the store and swapped it for another board.
The only way I would even bother demoing another TBT board is if it was their jib TBT (Wide center base)

So basically, for you I recommend the DC or YES much more than the lobster, but it’s still your choice, I think you can still have fun on the lobster.
It comes down to asking yourself, do I want to board to less catchy and more forgiving (YES)
Or do I want a board that’s close to the way a camber rides and has a little more snap off the nose/tail (DC) and a nicer base for AUS.
The DC and the YES will both ride similarly with the slight exception written above.

The Lobster is a totally different feeling board, if you haven’t demoed one, you may buy it and hate it like I did. Or you may take the chance and love it.

Andy thanks heaps for that.

It makes lot of sense as to what you saying.

I never tried TBT technology so i would be taking a chance on that.

Let say if either go with DC or the Jackpot would you take those boards to japan if you where just to do park and maybe little powder runs ?

Thanks

DC uses structurn base
http://www.snowdb.com/technologies/dc/2012/structurn

my PBJ was slow as in spring conditions (probably because im overweight for the board)
never the less….felt like driving miss daisy sometimes
as im not a park person…cant really comment on park efficiency

i only bought this board because is a freaking noodle to me so could help me learn butters easier

My DC Tones Structurn base is woeful in spring slush. I pretty much had to walk the traverse from BC to Guthega at the shred as the mexicans flew past me.  angry

Feels alright in fresher snow but will be interesting to compare it next to the sintered base on my new Charlie Slasher.

As for you Lano, Sack up and go to Japow! You’ve got more boards than days on snow this year…..  michelle

I’ve only heard positive things about the DC PLY off a mate who in whis who rides pretty much nothing but park - works in the parks crew so uses the board for jibs and jumps all day every day so I think you’d be pretty sorted with that. Another board to look at for jibbing from YES is The Public. I demoed the 151 in Whistler and was really impressed with it. Won’t lie, I’m still thinking about grabbing one of these as it was so much fun for mucking around on and hitting pretty much any and every side hit I could find. Didn’t get a chance to take it through the park unfortunately but given how playful it was I’m sure it’d hold it’s own.

Check out this thread skip posted as theres a lot of useful info in here from skip, Marc and myself - https://www.boardworld.com.au/forums/viewthread/5414/

Another option could also be the Never Summer Evo - super poppy board which is designed primarily for Park riding. This is the other main contender for my next board in Whistler.

Was in a store a few minutes ago playing with the DC’s. The Mega is listed has having a stiffer flex than the Ply, but I found it to be the other way round. Before someone can really reccomend you a board for jibbing you need to decide what profile you prefer. The DC Ply seems to be more of an all mountain park board. It’s not true twin either (probably not noticeable).
Personally I’m getting a Mega or Ply 153 as my next park stick, and I’ll be taking it to Japan and using it on mild powder days until I can afford a new powder board.

Sam to be honest with you i have never ridden anything else but chemical storm board while i was at a japan and was quiet happy with it, the only think is i wished i got it size smaller as it felt like it was 158.

So in all honesty i am not sure what profile i prefer to ride, and i guess that is why i am asking for suggestions, considering i am a beginner with park/jibbing.

I think Marc has demoed both the Mega and the Ply. Maybe he could elaborate some more here.

skip i hope he does…. seems like PLY is to go i am just waiting for few more reviews to come out as i couldn’t find many.

any good websites where boards are reviewed ?

Both shayboarder and the angry snowboarder generally come up in google searches of board reviews so maybe check them out.

Angry is generally pretty good with his reviews. Though he sounds like a pretty strong legged individual so he destroys flexy boards and prefers stiffer boards.

And for some reason, he is in love with T9 and Salomon. Don’t listen to him for those.

I felt exactly the same man.

You could easily go down to a 152 for a park board as long as your feet fit on it. Personally I like DC and YES. I loved the Tasman(iac) and the jackpot is similar but more flexy. I’m pretty sure that will be my next board if it’s still around when I need a new one smile

Thanks guys all those links i have bookmarked already, but they are quiet slow in reviews on new boards which i can understand as winter is just approaching for them.

Yeah i agree with you TJ i am in between DC and Jackpot.

with the park boards do you usually get smaller size eg.. my hights is 182cm and max 80kg usually idling around 77kg so i get 155cm, but with park should i be looking around 153 and 154 ?
