Thoughts on the new IPHONE 4!

Iphone 3gs FTW… the iphone 4 will more than likely have teething problems… wait for the 4gs or whatever moniker they dream up for it, just dont get fooled and buy an ipad

yeah thats totally what I’m thinking, I waited for the 3gs which was way worth it

I can’t see the value in going for the 4 over the 3GS.

If you’re needing the better hardware, go for the Samsung HD, Nokia N97, Nokia N900 or even wait for the Nokia N8 (12mp FTW)

If you like the apple software, then it does not really make upgrading that essential, or worth the extra dosh to go for it over the 3GS.

Personally, I have the 3GS, and am eligible for an upgrade, but won’t worry about it unless the cost comes down. Even then I don’t see it as a big step up.

It’ll probably be a good device, and worth getting if it comes free on the plan you want, but just not worth the cash compared to the 3GS, unless of course you need video calling, faster wifi and more frequency bands, then go for one of the phones mentioned above.

In teh US it isnt available on any provider except AT&T. I’m waiting for it to be available on Verizon.
Verizon really seems to have my region covered. if not the best coverage in most of the US. Once the iPhone is available on Verizon the sales will continue to increase rapidly! I just know it….

Funny thing, is that pre-ordering for the iPhone4 is opened up, and yesterday was the first day…. I read an article that Apple reports they sold 600,000 on the first day of pre-orders!!!! way more than expected!
wow.
And the stock went up about 15 points too.

Wehn you look at the features on the 4 vs the 3. it may be worth it.
the display on the screen is much nicer - face to face talking is something that can only be done iPhone4 to iPhone4, so that would be cool to be able to do that. you can go to the website and read more about it.

Iphone 4 is going to go through the roof in sales!
Everyone is going to have it, there is going to be an overload in the market.
I think I will get one, but I’ll test it first or maybe not raspberry

again, we have had face to face talking (video calling) on japanese phones for a few years now. I can do it on my phone which is 2 years old….but never have. Why not? 1. it’s way more expensive than a regular call and 2. i prefer faceless talking - how can you answer a video call while sitting on the toilet??

how can you answer a video call while sitting on the toilet??

I can think of several ways! cheese

I don’t imagine any of them would be pleasant or comfortable for the caller.

In the US it is only available on one carrier.
I’m waiting for it to come available on Verizon. there’s a possibility it will in late 2010.

If you like what the iphone 4 does better than the 3gs, you’re better off going for a whole different phone. Anything the iphone 4 does better than the 3gs, other phones do much better than the iphone 4.

Video calling has been available here since 2003, and I imagine Japan probably had it around then too. 3 has been doing it since 3g phones were the size of a Kei car.  It’s just that most people never use it.

5 megapixel camera and HD video….

same here. 5mp is the base for everyone except apple. You’d be hard pressed to find any new releases with less than 5. The N95 had a 5 meg and came out at the end of 2007, which was around when 5 mp was the upper range.

If you like cameras, go for the SE Satio, or wait for the Nokia N8. Both are good 12 mp
If you want HD video, go the Samsung HD (720p 8mp)
If you like business tools, go for the Nokia N97, N900 or Samsung Omnia.
If you like Multimedia phones, the Samsung HD is the best screen on the market.
If you like simple, easy to use interfaces, go the iphone.

Hardware wise, the iphone has always been crap. Software wise, it’s the market leader.

So, this website that I go to :
http://www.macrumors.com

They print a lot of articles about all Apple products. and right now the BUZZ is all about the iPhone4, so that’s the majority of info there.
There’s problems arising with screen discoloration, antenna signal, and calls dropping.

I think the screen discoloration has to do with glue drying and goes away?
odd.
there is a rush to keep making these, and I’m not surprised there would be quality control concerns. You can only make so many of an item so fast without any problems.

All that being said… on to other Apple products.
I’ve owned a 30G iPod for years now, and I just got a new 16G nano, very nice. I kind of like the pedometer feature - it’s fun to play with.
Getting songs from one iPod to another is going to be a little of a challenge, but I’ll figure out how.

My Macbook is getting old, so it’s time to get a new one, I’m thinking MacBookPro, is what it’ll be.
It will really be for my wife, not me.

So the iPhone is getting bad press for dropping calls, when held too tightly and when held in the wrong way” apparently this happens with many smart phones. something about the antenna connection. having a cover on the phone limits this, for the iPhone, and for other brands that do the same.
