If you can afford $3000 to go to Japan, then you can afford it to go to the Shred!!!!!
Evidently NOT.
If ya referring to me, I went to see my daughter in Vic!!!!! I made the choice to go to Japan instead, and I’m the one that has to live with it!!!!!
I may joke about missin out, but I’m happy with my decision all the same!!!!!
Just as cords would rather save her money in order to go to Sweden, others decide to forgo such things and attend the Shred!!!!!
If ya noticed anyone that had some electrodes attached to their genitalia, let me know?????
It’s just a matter of what ya want most I guess?????
Why force people to choose, when they can potentially have both?
And, with this Shred there was always an option to stay at The Station, as with last years that was always an option to stay at Jindabyne!!!!! (plus the fact that very reasonable accommodation was organized by Spaz, that was on snow anyway)
Why force people to stay off snow when some don’t wish to sacrifice in order to do so?????
as long as you bow out while riding a snowboard, as you appear to be, its all good!
I agree there is no right or wrong, just trying to offer up the other side & explain it. I don’t think chucky said hundreds of randoms next year, I think he said hundreds of randoms over the course of the coming years.
My view is that nothing is more important than the most amount of days on snow I can possibly squeeze in, and that will never change. I’ll never sacrifice riding days for a more social approach or some such. If i can get 10-12 days with just me and freddy in NZ for the same money as 7 days at the shred, I’ll go to NZ every time - and so would many other potential Shred attendees, i’m quite sure.
i didnt stay on snow with everyone else this time (first shred) and kind of feel as though i missed out on some of the social happenings but still had a good time overall…will definitely be staying with everyone else next time though i believe
Sorry but if a 100 randoms show up next year then the shred is not for me.
Exactly - so just call it what it was, an ‘exclusive’ event.
Good for Boardworld regulars, but a great marketing opportunity missed for Boardworld.

I don’t understand your argument here. I’m not a regular member if the site (sure my wife is though) and I had a great weekend there meeting new people and enjoying the social aspect that comes with a group that knows each other…even if its just through a website. The way I see it, and correct me if I’m wrong because I’m just an outsider looking in, the shred SHOULD be an exclusive event to Boardworld members. Why would you want randoms turning up taking advantage of a cheep deal and not give anything back to the boardworld community?? How many times have I heard you all complain about someone joining just to win a prize and never hear from them again? The shred shouldn’t be the same thing.
The fact of everyone wearing boardworld tees or hoodies WAS the promotion and marketing you’re talking about. I mean do you know how many people asked what’s with the boardworld thing? It WAS the opportunity to discuss the forum and try to get people to join.
My ONLY criticism of the weekend was that there didn’t seem enough for more novice boarders like myself and static. Maybe that’s just a problem with perisher but I really wanted to join you all in (I think it was called) sun valley but there was no way I could have gotten in there and more importantly out of there! Would’ve been good to have some help from others that are obviously way more experienced.
Other than that, I had a brilliant time! I think the accommodation was perfect. The food was AMAZING! The shoeys were disgusting to watch. The push-ups SUCKED and I’m looking for payback next year!! (I’m looking at you Rider!) And lastly the people were great to spend a weekend with!
Yep, yep, yep, and yep!!!!!

Pretty much every single contest Boardworld runs is designed to attract new members, with the intent of encouraging them to stick around. This is how Boardworld survives.
The Shred would still be “the same thing”, just with more people.
Do music festivals suck because there’s more people than just you and your friends there?

And how many joined? Perhaps, instead, a large group of riders cruising around Perisher gave the impression Boardworld was a somewhat exclusive clique?
That will still be the case if it were an even bigger group?????
I also think that logistically, it is better to grow at a slow enough rate for Jez and Michelle to be able to deal with it as we’ll as they have!!!!!
If 1000 peeps rocked up and it turned into a shambles, it would most likely die a very quick death?????
Had “1000 peeps rocked up” to The Station specifically for the Shred, Perisher would have had it all sorted - and it would have been awesome.
Had it been more affordable, this year’s Shred could have been a great way to encourage infrequent visitors to Boardworld to get more involved, and attract new members in the process. It wasn’t, simple as that.
This is just getting ridicule. I have been watching this thread for a week now and constant same BS and going in circle….
What’s better what’s not better who really cares if you want to stay at snow stay, if you want to stay at station stay, and if you want to sleep next to a garbage bind next to the sundeck stay who cares…
I had fun either way, they only downfall for me was that everyone went they own way during the day and I did really get to shred with many ppl but other than that it was good.
But I will agree one thing SHRED IS NOT MEAN TO BE FOR ONLY CLOSE GROUPS OF PEOPLE IN MY EYES it should be for all members.
Why i say this.. I dunno how many of you have run a forum and this is not a cheap project all cost money to run it to provide bandwidth etc i can go in page and pages of shit that is involved that you guys done see it.
So i think the more people know about boardworld and the more people support it/go to shred i think rider will just benefit from it.
That is what i think and at the end of the day rider should decide what he want to do and how he wants to approach it and its what is best for his sponsors as well, if they don’t see any benefits from boardwrold they will all go.
It’s just my 5c
This year was definitely more spread out than last year. But at the same time, there is 50 people (all with different times of being ready) trying to go out and ride together.
Jeremy did a fantastic job of messaging people to meet at the sundeck at certain times and while some people did get left behind in places, you have to think it’s inevitable with such a big group. If you didn’t get these messages, then you probably should have given your number to the boss! lol.
Being on snow was a joy for me, I felt like I could get up when I wanted and also go back to where I was staying with little hassle. I had the money to pay for it and in my mind it was worth it. By all means, if everyone stayed at the Station and I was on snow by myself, it might not have been as great of a time but I still would have had a blast and the ease of being on snow would still be worth it in my books.
That being said, whatever the plan is for next year, I’ll be on snow because I find it worth the money and I’m sure anyone off snow will enjoy it because of the savings.
It all boils down to priorities - whether dedicated Boardworld members want to to what’s best for Boardworld, or best for themselves.
It actually boils down to what Jeremy thinks, and what direction he thinks is best to take it in!!!!!
But the will of the members plays a major part in that decision making process, and I could be mistaken, but that was for an on snow event two years running!!!!!
As to what direction that takes in the future Shreds?????
So its going to be at Hotham in ‘13???? Right !!!!

So really you’re just complaining about the afordability of the weekend?
I don’t know of any cheeper place where you can stay on snow that had breakfast and dinner included? (I still have dreams if the lambshank!! MMmmm…lamby goodness… Sorry where was I?) You could come and go as you wanted and with the warm weather it was funny to watch everyone head back to thier room to come back out with just a T-shirt. You couldn’t have done this if we’d all stayed at the Station?!
