Hehe, just kidding mate. You can do it just as easily in Windows, but I (naturally) wanted to take the piss.  tongue wink

It used to be a little tricky (picking through activity links in Safari to find a link to a streaming Flash file *), but now it couldn’t be easier!

There’s now an extension available for Firefox called ‘Download Helper’ - use this link:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloadhelper/

Once you’ve installed it in Firefox and restarted, go to YouTube, where there’s now the full HD version available:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGQeNiumoes&feature=player_embedded

Select the 1080p HD option and click to play.

Then go to ‘Tools/DownloadHelper/Media’ - choose the 1080p file - and click on ‘Download’.

Sweet as bro!

* For anyone who’s interested:

There’s no standard command for capturing streaming YouTube videos in Safari, but it can be done with the browser’s built-in tools - provided that you’re downloading a Flash file. Simply navigate to the YouTube video you want to capture and start it playing. Command-Option-A opens Safari’s ‘Activity’ window - and in this window you’ll see the name of the video, followed by the word ‘YouTube’. In the list of links below it, look for an entry that appears to be loading - it should have a larger file size than the rest, and that’s how you’ll identify it. Option-double-click on it, and it will download to your Mac as an ‘flv’ file. Then all you need to do is convert it, and you’re done.
