I’ve just got back from an awesome weekend up at Falls. I couldn’t get over how many people were riding with helmet cams, stick cams and cam cams. A lot of the people with cams were struggling to make a smooth trip down a blue run. Are people now more concerned about capturing everything then actually riding and riding well. Then throw in head phones, gps’s and bluetooth connectivity to your phone.
I admit to rocking out with my ipod and the occasional gps challenge to register a top speed.
Do we now have too many gadgets?
no! next question!
You see it a lot these days. GoPros and other cameras are everywhere. I have one but tend to not use it too much for daily shredding. Sometimes it’s more of a hassle than anything. I think technology progression has been great though. It’s now easy for anyone to take up a waterproof video camera and film their day in full HD, with a camera that literally fits in the pocket. It’s pretty cool in my opinion. There will always be gadgets available and I have no problem with it. The crappy ones tend to get weeded out pretty quickly anyway.
haha!
Ask Dan how frustrating it is to take the GoPro out for the day and get about 20secs of video before the battery runs out. Stack and break the camera off the pole and then spend a couple of hours riding with a cameraless pole until he finally said… Kim can you take my pole please!
So me the champ that I am skied with two ski poles, my own Drift on a pole (filming Dan!!) and Dan’s pole…
Don’t get me wrong I love a good gadget. I just observed that for some having the gadgets was getting in the way of their ability to ride.
you’re not wrong, adsman, it’s just that the little cams are great for capturing memories of riding with your mates and/or family. Personally I want a Heads-Up Display (HUD) in my goggles with navigation, link to camera, link to phone/net and augmented reality!

These are more common than you think. Two of my mates are rocking these: http://www.reconinstruments.com/products/snow-heads-up-display , and I don’t have many mates!
that looks pretty awesome, AJ. What do your mates reckon about them?
haha!

It was pretty small so easy to manage…

I actually tested the Recon Transcend goggles a couple of seasons ago. I thought the technology they were using was awesome. It was really cool to be able to see speed, max speed, temperature, vertical etc. all within the goggle display. I wasn’t impressed with the goggle frames; way too big and not what I look for in a goggle. That said, these were early models and my feedback to them was definitely have smaller frames and more options in regards to fit and sizing. Overall the goggles were quite bulky but I’m sure they will improve this with time.
I have a pair of the LIC cam-gogs. love them.
so much better than riding around with a cubic gopro sticking off my body somewhere
Rider, the new Recon HUD actually fits into a bunch of different brand gogs so you dont need to worry about bulk anymore.

Sounds pretty cool. Will have to look into it. Thanks for letting me know.
