Currently in the middle of putting together my 2nd snowboard trip, After the success of the first im ready to upgrade my gear for Japan 2013!!!
I was riding a Burton Clash 151 With Burton Cartel Bindings however ive been told the snow in japan is going to be insane powder compared to Canada
Any suggestions or a new board/bindings?? I picked up boarding real quick (was linking turns on my first day and have suck a few little grab tricks and been bombing down quite a few double black runs) so any advice would be great!
(cost is not a factor so let em fly!!!!)
Get one of these. I saw a guy shredding in japan on one and he was surrounded by an aura of awesome!!
Plus its a jap company too (i think) , so you’d be helping them out their economy after the whole tsunami bizz, BUT only buy it when you get there, rules is rules!

Buy your board in Japan and you will get more of an idea on what will be good to ride with the japowda. You may be able to get a few demo boards for the day to get an idea of what you like and feel comfortable on.

Get something with rocker, lots of it. Japan might be the only place in the world that you could realistically get away with a T Rice banana hammock.

realistically??? if you’re on a cat trip maybe.
if you’re lucky it will be deep pow, if you’re unlucky it will be hardpack. If you want to get a powder board as an addition to your quiver then great, otherwise stick to an allround board. It doesn’t matter if it’s cambered or rockered or flat. Every snowboard will float in the powder, they just feel a little different.
Also, unless you’re buying a japanese board, you can buy the exact same burton/lib tech/whatever board in Australia, so just go with the cheapest option.
I live in Japan but I don’t ride Japanese boards. Not including the expensive boutique boards (Gentem, Moss, Wand, etc) most are just made in the same Ogasaka factory with only the graphics and shapes changing. You will find more tech in the north american/euro makers
Keep the bindings and invest in a board. Definitely get something with a decent amount of rocker.
Are you looking for something very powder/freeride specific or a versatile board that can also handle deep pow?
My old board is fine for just hacking around, bbut its kinda slow, I dont mind useing it to fall around in the park and smash into trees, Just looking to move up to a more advanced board, with a bit more speed and pop to it, i dont ride in the park often i prefer long tree runs and fresh tracks type riding….

Plenty of the crew on here have YES boards includin myself!!!!! I would love to get the TDF but I’ve spent my dough on a Japow holiday myself!!!!!
And I would definitely recommend the FLUX bindings as a quality couplin to it!!!!! Made in Japan, for Japow!!!!!
Yeh they both look rad as, as I keep posting everywhere I’m in Japan in feb so those bits of gear just shot to the top of my list of considerations!!!
If you’re thinking more freeride and pow maybe consider YES Pick Your Line. Demoed the board in spring and it’s awesome! The generous rocker in the nose will help you float through Japow with more ease.
