How about this one then????? From Transworld’s site!!!!!
<img src =“http://snowboarding.transworld.net/files/2009/02/24/ben-1-full.jpg.jpg” width =“400”>
There is still some context. You know from the angle that he is quite far off the ground.
Still a meh to average shot but there is something there.
I gotta agree with Gamblor, Chucky and TJswish. Snowboard photography would be boring if everyone just zoomed in on the snowboarder and shot them in the air. A method off a 100 foot cliff drop would look exactly the same as a method off a 5 foot kicker. It’s already bad enough that something like a triple cork could look exactly the same as an indy grab in the wrong moment.
Those shots from the Transworld site are below average. I can pretty much guarantee you that these shots would not make the cut to appear in the magazine.
totally agree.
a shot like this is more likely going to apear as a poster to advertise bargain rate snowboard rentals or something like that.
it is a well exposed and shot photo but it just doesnt have any wow factor really.
if i did see a photo like that in say transworld mag i would be very let down.
Like I said TJ, I’m not baggin ya photo whatsoever, and just because ya not a “professional” photographer, doesn’t mean that one of your pics aren’t gonna take out the first prize!!!!!
If ya look at the original pics that FMF posted, they still have more elements other than rider and sky in them!!!!!
The point was made that “guy in the sky” pics are rubbish!!!!! I disagree that’s all!!!!!
These are the ones you are referring to Mizu?
1st one has the trees relatively close and the rider is quite high in the frame. Therefore it shows that he is relatively high. Though it doesn’t show a take-off or a landing so we don’t know what he is working with. With the right angle, you can get shots like that out of Merrits / Piper park jumps.
2nd one has a blurred background. From the picture we see that the rider is nowhere near this stuff so it gives us nothing to work with. Still no take off or landing and since he is so close to the bottom of the shot, he could easily be 1m off the ground. If there was a lip or landing in there to give us an idea, this could be an epic shot.
As the photos are different sizes, it also makes you believe that they have been cropped to take out something in the photo. That doesn’t help the cause.
I totally don’t want to offend FMF with this post though. He has posted many good shots in this comp, these 2 just aren’t 2 of his best. e.g. I love this shot!

This photo is mad but looks like it was re-sized in paint as there is blurs around the boarder.
Try using photoshop (or paint.net) to resize to 800 width if you are having issues.

Here’s another entry for the edited photo comp. The idea I had was good, but not enough source files to work with meant the execution is a bit of a let down.
Essentially, what I had in mind was a sequence of one trick, in this case, a simple backside 180 performed by 6 different riders.

No offense taken, really happy to hear feedback, its going to help my work anyways! One point to note on photo 2 TJ is that the lip of the jump is ever so slightly in the frame, bottom right. Considering I knew it was there before hand, I’m obviously going to see it easier then anybody else would! And upon reflection I should have included more in it!
Comments taken onboard! And appreciated

Nice shot! How did you get that angle?
Was there the giant brick up the top of Front Valley that they put in at the end of the shred maybe?
