What are your dates DRC?
First nights accommodation is booked in Myoko on the 8th of January. I need to come home around the 26th. So at this stage I’ve been searching for 7th-26th.

Ahh nice. I’d clicked on the call center link on their website here which gave me a bunch of countries other than Australia.

sounds like they have the same thing as JAL
Items deemed as baggage with total linear dimensions not exceeding 158 cm (62in.)
highly doubt you will be under 158 linear
No I’m miles over the 158 but that’s what we’ve been discussing and trying to work out.
It actually looks like it may just be poorly worded on the website as everything points towards a snowboard bag (along with a list of other sporting equipment) being fine despite being over the dimensions.
i havent looked at, but does jet star have those rules as well ?
its poorly worded in Chinese also
i got my trusty translator aka wife to read it
she explains in china people would think that sporting gear is not part of checked luggage so they had to specifically spell it out
if you have sporting gear it must be counted as checked luggage
the fact that its under 158 linear means you wont be charged excess charge if its the only checked luggage
if its 2nd piece of checked you will be charged excess on excess
eg
you have a normal checked + sporting which is over linear 158 you will be slugged 450 USD ...per flight
jet star does not have this bad restrictions
its 1.9m length (short haul, 2.77 on long haul) not total linear
its pre booked so will not be part of the included fare
Not just chinese people Hum,
It used to be the case for all airlines not so long ago!!!
jet star does not have this bad restrictions
its 1.9m length not total linear
y not fly with jet star then ?
Am guessing the other options are currently cheaper than jetstar!

yikes!!
okay had a quick look for you - have you tried Scoot??
hmmm scoot
8 bucks CC charge per flight
36 bucks each way for luggage 25kg
32 for 20kg
http://www.flyscoot.com/images/plan_and_book/fares_and_fees/scoot_fees_chart_combined_151012.pdf
besides that dont know nothing about them
Yeah Jet* is pricey atm.
At this stage I’m looking at Air China for ~$1600 (if I can confirm with them the baggage rules)
Cathay Pacific for around $2050 or $2300 if I want a stopover in Hong Kong
and there’s a few options like Korea Air, China Southern etc for around $2200
so I definitely have some options it just means I have to pay more than I originally planned but it’s not the end of the world.
Just looked up Scoot then oz. 7-26th is coming in around $1300 with bags. Long flight times but I definitely think that’s worth having a look into their baggage rules, thanks for the tip.
