The BOARDWORLD Forums ran from 2009 to 2021 and are now closed and viewable here as an archive
Thanks for the update. Pretty neat that 2 of the 5 internationals are on this forum.
End of August, I guess we’ve waited this long, whats another month, haha!
Most recent update for those who applied for Sochi. Invitations are supposed to go out by end of August. They are doing a small trial run for international visas for the 4nations sledge hockey tournament in August. Only 5international volunteers were invited. The difficult part at the moment is vacation time. Luckily 2of us have visas already.
I have been told that the accommodation will be in hotels for this test event but in apartments for the games. I will try to post how things are progressing when I can.
Seeing as it is now officially “official”, I can now proudly announce that I was one of the “5” chosen to attend the test event in August! Wooo-Hooo!
Congrats guys, happy for you both
I think I’m pretty much out, so have a beer for me!
Congrats Rob, My daughter and I are also in that group. It will be great to meet you.

Thanks TJ, it’s too bad you won’t be joining us for the test event later on this month but the “Big prize” is still a few months away! I’m sure everyone on the board will have an opportunity to meet and share stories at that time. Perhaps a commemorative Olympic Boardworld t-shirt for all of us attending would be appropriate… haha!

I meant that I won’t be there for the big prize either… Probably going to Canada instead!
Hi guys!
I just received an e-mail in Russian, which of course I translated to English (with the help of Google). Anyone else got this?
Congratulations!

It also provides me with a link to a website (also in Russian) and a login. Anyone else got this?
Update: I logged in to the website, unfortunately, everything is in Russian, no English language button as far as I could find.

I got this e-mail, too. I’ve scavenged everywhere for English with no such luck. Sent an e-mail to support, hopefully I’ll hear back soon.

A little trick I used is just hover with your mouse over the weblinks, it will show the destination which are in english. Via that way I came across a forum board, where there are some english messages.

Woke up to the same email as well. As Lukie stated, there is a thread in the training portal forum that started today asking about an English training website, and where everybody is from.
I am starting to believe that those of us that received this email have been chosen. When I read it in english, I’ll be convinced!

I received this email too! Twice actually. Once last night which included a user name and password, and this morning which didn’t include a password.
Could you provide a link to the training forum please? I couldn’t find it…
Thanks!
I got it too!
Well, hopefully I might be able to meet a few from this forum after all. I basically had given up on being a Sochi volunteer as I hadn’t heard anything other than some sparsely sent generic emails and they were usually in Russian. Didn’t even log on here as I had given up (and currently thinking about water skiing and not boarding as up here in the Great White North, it isn’t so white at the moment - unless your up in the Rockies or on a glacier .
Not a single word from Sochi since December when I had my one and only interview, when out of the blue I get this email from an individual I never corresponded with before that is basically “Hi, I’m your Sport Function leader…are you ready to come to Sochi?”. Asked if the arrival and departure dates are acceptable (basically need to be in Sochi from the end of January to end of February) and to make sure my passport will be valid for at least 6 months after I leave Russia. Also sounds like 3 or 4 per room for volunteers, bunk beds anyone?
Not really willing to say exactly what area I’m up for as I don’t want to jinx anything and it’s far from official enough for me, but it’s a coastal cluster sport technical role (the only preference I listed on the application). It seems at least a dozen other foreigners are being selected for those specific technical roles in that one specific sport as well. Hopefully I’ll get an “official” invite soon as the costs of flights has already doubled for me since I last checked in February.
Hopefully others will also start to get good news as well.
Lastest update on the crazy Russian email everyone got this week. It was a mistake and was sent to everyone. I have been told by the head of the International volunteers that the Yes, Maybe, No letters will be sent by the end of August. He also said that those that get a Yes and Maybe( you passed all the interviews and english but the area you are interested in may be full at the moment and waiting for those that got yes letters to sign the contract- basically a reserve pool) still have to pass the security check that can take till November to clear.
Regarding sleeping arrangements, International volunteers are supposedly going to be housed in one bedroom apt. with 4 beds and 1 bathroom. There is a possibility that your could get a 2 or 3 BR with 4 people to each room and only 1 bathroom. There are no laundry facilities so bring lots of underwear.
As more details arrive, I will try to post.
The training portal now has a message that the email sent was a mistake. Well, it was exciting for the day!
Learning, out of the fiasco yesterday, you seem to have the only legitimate invite!
