@rider: Yepp, you definitely called me a few times when I lost you. Ya riding a whistler is a really good idea. One of my CASI group member always has a whistle attached to his jacket.
Not sure if they still do, but DC jackets use to come with a whistle on a lanyard, in one of the chest pockets!!!!!
I tried on new Atomic Ski boots which have a little beacon thingy! Apparently patrollers in the US carry something… not sure if i am getting the boots so haven’t done any research. Think it is a bit of novelty.

Are you talking about Recco?
Patrollers over here carry Recco detection systems but it’s not nearly as reliable as a transceiver. If you’re in the backcountry and you get buried with nothing but a Recco chip, I’d say you’re as good as dead. It would be useless if you’re caught in a treewell.

I wouldn’t have bought the boots on that basis alone so i wasn’t really paying attention.
I was more excited about the battery operated warmer being built in and that i only had to buy the battery pack!!! LOL
But yeah don’t think I am getting them.
He is bring in another pair of boots before the long weekend - i will be trying them on. There is a small chance i may go back to the Atomics…
But yeah i doubt it would help that much - but it is better than nothing I suppose.
And it suppose it would help with some situations. Last year there was reports of someone in the trees from interceptor to Pretty Valley. 10 patrollers has to all spread out and sweep the area. It may have help them? not sure how much of a range it has.
