Got a question about the Lib Tech Banana Magic, I just ended up ordering it because I snapped my new Custom while on vacation in Bear Mountain, just my luck had the board for less then 2 months and I snapped it at the tip after landing a jump wrong, I couldn’t believe it I ended up demoing a few board on the trip and was looking at the Never Summer boards but they were limited to what they had left so I went with the Banana Magic w/ the ride Maestro bindings hope it will be as good as I been hearing, my question is do I need to detune the contact points on this board or do they do that out of the factory like Burton does? I read on their site that it does require wax but mother about detaining also do I need a special tool to sharpen because of the different edge on these boards?
Any info would be greatly appreciated
You don’t need to detune because of the board’s C2 camber profile; rocker between the feet lifts the contact points. I’m not too sure if Lib Tech factory detunes the contact points, but either way it’s not really necessary.
Lib Tech makes a tuning tool for their Magne-traction edges: http://www.lib-tech.com/accessories/mtx-tuning-tool/

It’s not necessary to buy this tool. I use a regular one and works just fine. The so called “magnetraction tool” is just smaller so you can follow the wavy edge easier.
Lib Tech’s do come factory de-tuned!!!!!
I’ve got that tool to tune my Arbor cause it has a magnetraction like edges.
I used to use a normal tool to tune my Libtech when I had it and it can be done.
But having the right tool for the job definitely helps, otherwise only the ends of a normal tool are touching the edges. This one fits in the edge waves so much better.

Thank you Rider26
Thank you for the info, I actually ended up ordering this tool, It doesn’t appear to have a adjustment on it so I’m assuming that the angle on it is the base/side angle that comes out of the factory correct?

Thanx for the info, does this tool come with a diamond stone or a file, and also the angle on it is the standard angle that comes out of lib tech right?

No worries.
I’m guessing it’s double sided, with two alternate angles. In the picture I can see 88 degrees; the other side is probably 89 or 90 degrees. This edging tool is probably only intended for the side edge. The base edge doesn’t need to be sharpened as often. Best to keep the base edge in good shape by using a gummy stone or a fine diamond stone free-hand, to keep it burr-free and sharp. The real sharpening will happen when you get a base grind. Make sure you tell the tuning shop if you want a certain base edge bevel (0.5, 1 degree etc.).
i have one of those tools. one side is 88 degrees and the other side is 90 degrees.
