Interesting Place Names

Well this kind of got started in one of the other threads by snowslider and a few others, but I figured we could end up with some crackers, and at the same time get some worldly culture into us from some international members, and also educate them about some of the places over here with some odd names…

So to start with, this is a three pack that doesn’t really work without the others, but near here we have Myponga & Yankalilla, which are ok (enough), but then some bright nut decided that they weren’t enough, so created Mypolonga, just to confuse everyone…

And the closest beach to us is called Moana, which you would think (and most tourists do) is pronounced like it looks - as in how the sound “Moan” is pronounced…but never fear, it is of course pronounced differently, Mow-ar-na…so whenever people come who aren’t from around here, it always gets a good laugh…

Well they are my weak 8am efforts, who wants to come and rescue this thread with some good ones smile?

Theres a “Wee Waa” in NSW and i reckon seeing “Sale” on a map is pretty funny :p

What about Whakapapa in NZ?

Also Lake Titicaca.

I always thought Woolloomooloo was a wierd one too.

 

In reference to lake titicaca, im pretty sure that when you say “caca” it means shit in about 3 different languages

theres probably a sign somewhere saying in fart to hell.
I always try and comply with the out fart signs when leaving the servo

Not far from my home town there is a really crappy lake the one beach that you have access to is called tillicum beach.

 

I once went to an picnic area in the national parks of vic called big peninsula and all the signs saying peninsula got scratched out to penis :]
