end of the day…its who you eat with that makes it “special” wink

EXACTLY!  cheese

it doesn’t have to be too unhealthy!

My favourite thing to eat at the snow (I make a lunchbox before I go that usually feeds me for 2 meals and you can eat it cold a day later and its still yummy!) is a couple of packets of mi goreng (boiled), a big bunch of fresh salad (easy salad - tomato, lettuce, capsicum, corn, onion) and stirfried chicken pieces with some morrocan chicken spice sprinkled on it. Takes me half an hour. Only trick is you do have to stir in a tiny bit of olive oil so that the noodles don’t all stick together and go gross.

Delicious, cheap and healthy - and does me for a weekend of lunches at the snow (while unprepared mates spend $20 each day on a grotty hamburger, chips and coke)

I agree with humdingaling though too, despite different budgets and spending people have - its the company that counts!

If you spend $20 of the burger, chips and coke you will burn it off when you snowboard! LOL

hey that sounds yummo

instead of using Mi goreng noodles try it with hokkein noodles….pretty cheap if you have a local Asian store around
stay away from getting it at woolies/coles though as its a bloody rip off

the fresh one is obviously better tasting than the instant one but is also more expensive

you will find the texture much better and the noodles will taste much fresher
treat it the same way..boil and oil

i must admit im in the unprepared mates group

ok, I’ll def look into the hokkien thing! I’ve seen them but for some reason never too into the idea - seem a bit big and bulky. I like rice noodles (the thin and wispy ones that you just leave in water to soak)

Its only through only barely being able to afford lift tickets & petrol to get to the snow, that I’ve come up with that meal. Necessity is the mother of invention as they say. I wouldn’t have it any other way now, though!
I also buy packets of 100% juice poppers and a couple of powerades (from the supermarket & chill them at home before I leave) to be the drinks. Save so much money doing simple stuff like that and thinking just one day ahead. I also make sandwiches to eat on the trip down to try and avoid wasting money on food then… And a muesli bar or mini chocolate bar or two in the pocket of your jacket keeps you going so you don’t have to stop for food so often, too.

yeah a whole bag of hokkien will be too much just for your lunch option (unless your cooking for 8-10)
maybe do a stir fry with the left over amount for dinner

that other noodle is rice vermicelli… also works good with “salad” like this

these noodles tends to “eat up” all the sauce so if there is a lot of it (sauce that is), they will get soggy fast and can absorb too much sauce…to counter this you can flash fry it so it seals the noodles off

Powerades at wollies in town are 5 bucks for 3 pack (i think..) when on special compared to 5 bucks for 1 at the mountain
if your even more on a budget getting the powder pack is a much cheaper option (i use it for my bike riding anyway)

i do chocolate and muesli bars as well
i rediscovered space sticks that way LOL

yep it was the rice vermicelli I was talking about - the thin and wispy ones was all i could think of

haha I can’t quite stomach space food sticks - I never had them as a kid and now they just taste weird.

So true about the woolies cheapness and Yep I’ve got powdered staminade - which I use mostly when i’m sick (or hungover) and need fluids fast - I don’t really like water in those situations.

It isn’t necessity but I’m sick of paying exorbitant accom fees at the snow so I took my girl down for a romantic weekend in a tent at the snow, the first night was fine but the second night blew a gale and we didn’t sleep worth shit.  Next year I’m thinking about investing in one of these puppies for more romance ha ha.

If I go with a mates or mates they can sleep in the other room!

shrugs i derno why i like space sticks at the mountain only
i dont like them when cycling

nthn:
thats a brillant investment

the accom fees is more off putting than the actual lift tickets now days
not only that…you need to book so far in advance its impossible to predict weather and you need firm commitment for x amount of people to do so

Yeah I reckon so champ, Island Bend or Jindy van park here we come, a lot of those things come with the ability to hook to up to 240V or run a 12V battery supply for lighting as well as a spartan kitchen setup with burners and sink!  I’m still tossing the idea around and seeing if I can justify the expense, was looking at one that was under $3k, hopefully under $2K if I can find one, no dramas with second hand, just heave the mattress and use your own.

Should be no dramas towing the thing with the Ranger either without impacting too much on fuel!

I seriously love how thread on her go sooo off topic - and no nazi to tell us off or make us get back on topic!

A thread about romancing turns into cheap eats on mtn!

i really do agree with the opinions being offered on here, i do enjoy a non-expensive romantic occasion (such as fish & chips on the beach) but also enjoy a special outing (such as an anniversary dinner at a nice restaurant).

Oh and this pretty much sums up my thoughts on the matter!
