I love goin out for a 4 course dinner at an up market restaurant, stayin at a fancy hotel in the city and drinkin expensive wines!!!!!!

I also love hot chips and BBQ sauce at the beach, sittin on my lounge in my boxers and drinkin Oettinger Pils!!!!!!

Variety is the spice of life, and sharin that with ya soul mate is what makes those experiences even better!!!!!!

Pretty much the same mate, maybe I’m more romantic than I remember, dinner of bbq chook, bread rolls and a bottle of wine on the cliff watching the sunset in WA.

so then you’d rather have ten dinners out that you didn’t have to cook/clean up for, than just one, wouldn’t you?
I honestly can’t see how one $100 meal can possibly be better than ten $10 ones.
Is a $10 bowlo steak any worse than a $30 Hogs breath one? Unlikely - so why do people waste $20? I don’t think I’ll ever willingly pay more than $20 for any meal for myself and $20 is expensive.
Delicious & nutritious food doesn’t have be expensive and just because food is expensive, doesn’t mean its any better…but people seem to think it is somehow. That is what I think is weird.

It can be a hit and miss affair with restaurant food but the steak I had for $50 at Jonahs was the best steak I have had in a very long time and I loved it!  With that said I have been happy on occasion with a $12 steak.  If I had millions of dollars I would probably employ a full time chef to make healthy gourmet stuff everyday!

quality and variety of food matters

For 10 bucks i can get me 2 boxes of instant noodles
which can last for say 10 meals cause its easier to calculate
So in the same vain why waste $9

this actually tastes great…..but not all the time
certainly i would not want it for 10 meals

ok extreme example…

just saying the cut and breed of cow matters and factors into the cost

as there is less Tenderloin area in the cow obviously the cut is going to cost more than sirloin or round

haha… i have to laugh at myself for being such a fence sitter… i really do agree with the opinions being offered on here, i do enjoy a non-expensive romantic occasion (such as fish & chips on the beach) but also enjoy a special outing (such as an anniversary dinner at a nice restaurant).
I do understand that every day should be treated as special, but its also nice to mark out events, such as anniversaries by doing something out of the ordinary, like going to a different restaurant to normal, and i certainly cant afford to go to my favourite restaurants every single week and they are by no means expensive either. Yes you can certainly pay more for better quality food, and after having my first (and most likely only) 5 Star eating experience in Whistler it was definitely worth it, but again a once (maybe twice) only event.

Saying all of this, you dont have to pay big money to have a nice steak or piece of meat, but cut does effect cost and there are cuts of meat which do cost more. I personally had the most amazing steak I have ever had in my life 2 weeks ago and it was free, but as it was homekilled meat this isnt accessible to everyone. I dont know about the rest of you but I dont have a meathouse, coolroom, bansaw, or any butchering abilities to make this possible.

Once again, my fence sitting 2 cents…  cheese

hahaha so funny that this convo has gone as far as diagrams of cuts of meat. awesome!

I kept mentioning steak because I can’t seem to ever cook one for myself as deliciously as I get it at a bowlo, so that is something we go out to eat sometimes.

hehe this is a fun convo.

also in response to the ten meals of noodles for ten dollars (I reckon its more like 20 meals for ten bucks - where do you get your noodles? haha) I agree - and I eat a LOT of noodles - not just by themselves of course although I do that too, but they are the base of heaps of meals I make. Maybe thats why $20 for one single meal seems so over-the-top to me, let alone anything more than that.

Most dinners I make would cost me and my husband no more than about $6-7 each and that also feeds us for lunch the next day every time. If we eat out, we spend $9 at the local magic noodle, $8 each for a dominos pizza to ourselves (always pick up and with a voucher for cheapness!) or $10 at the bowlo for a steak (with chips and salad - no way I’m paying extra for that!)...$13-15 for “fancy” thai/chinese/indian or fish and chips at a stretch….and $20 each maybe for a fancy pub dinner if we’re out a pub with friends once in a blue moon…and thats it…so anything more costly than that seems exorbitant and a waste…

good to hear everyone’s different perspectives.

my bad
i take 2 servings of instant noodles per sitting as a meal…1 as a snack :-p

also this is the Spicy ramen noodles (korean instant noodles ones are generally more expensive) :0

i think rhi with her “fence sitting”
everyone likes a little special now and then…if it be more expensive than the norm then so be it

even cords yourself says blue moon 20 buck dinners

the monetary value of things is dependant on your financial situation
some families see having a family meal deal at maccas as special

end of the day…its who you eat with that makes it “special” wink

The elcheapo 2 minute noodles you guys are talkin about, are one of the most unhealthiest things that ya can eat!!!!!
