Rider’s Blog: Day 8

It was good to be back on the mountain today. After a five day hiatus to shake off early season aches and pains, it was finally time to ride again. I’m not planning on taking another break from now on.

I caught up with Finney and Chantelle, and we cruised a couple of quick laps to Red and Emerald. The cold temps have kept the snow in good shape. It’s hard and fast but there’s enough fresh on top in most places. Finney has been practising his switch riding over the last few days and I was super impressed with how well he’s riding.

We caught up with Rico (skip11) and continued to ride. We rode down to Mid Station and caught up with Blake and his friend who’s visiting form Silverstar. We did a lap to the bottom of Creekside, as they’re been pumping snow non-stop for 10 days. The cover is nice and fresh to the bottom (if you don’t mind riding through snow guns).

All in all, it was great to be back on the mountain. Had a fun day with a solid crew of friends. Can’t wait for Sushi Village tonight and more riding tomorrow.

Such fun times at Sushi Village last night. It was great meeting everyone and good to see some familiar faces too. Just about to head up Whistler to meet Finney and Shauno. I’ll post some photos later this afternoon.

Had an awesome night last night with the whole crew at Sushi Village, hopefully we’ll get a few more nights there this season. Dumbo size sake was amazing and the KFC rolls were brilliant, well worth the wait.

Had another great day up the hill today, it was snowing all day and got a bit heavier in the afternoon. Had a few great warm up laps with Blake and Kurtis this morning on blackcomb - crystal zone is great, nice soft cover little icy in patches but overall it’s fantastic. Shot over to whistler in the afternoon and met up with Jeremy and then Shauno shortly after. Cut laps all over the place, down to emerald, red a couple of times and also up peak to visit Marc’s latest creation up there (I’ll let him post a picture). Rode down to Creekside afterwards and the cover the whole way down was really good, once they groom it it’ll be amazing but unfortunately they’ll have to get rid of a few of the mounds/rollers that have been created by the snow guns which have been great fun to launch off.

Ended up doing a run across to Blackcomb on the Peak to Peak with jeremy then did the ride out to Treeline which is just over the road from where I’m living this season. Ride out is considerably better now that it’s had some fresh snow on it so I’ll be looking to ride out whenever i’m finishing up on Blackcomb.

Will be back up early tomorrow morning for a half day before I have to shoot into the village for a work thing at 1:30. Anyone wanting to meet up for a ride give me a call or message on 6049672421.

Rider’s Blog: Day 9

As Finney already mentioned, we had an awesome team dinner at Sushi Village last night. It was great to meet Shaun (and his buddy, Tristan), and Beau (Korver). A few other friends came along who I haven’t seen since last season. The first thing we did was order a dumbo sized hot sake (yep, it’s the biggest one they have). Ordered a few Asahi beers and the night was off to a great start. We had an excellent dinner, everyone was having a great time, and the food was awesome as usual.

I had a little sleep in this morning, then met up with Finney, Blake (who’s getting on a snowboard soon), and Kurtis (who just signed up to the forums). Immediately caught up with Shauno and we went riding all over the place. It was snowing pretty much all day, the cover was nice, and it was a really fun day. It was a super fun day riding with friends.

I must say, I’m really stoked on how much Finney has progressed this season. He’s only done a handful of days so far and his riding has really taken off. It’s been fun to watch. Great work, mate.

Have you guys seen the most recent forecast? The outlook is looking a lot more positive. Looks like we will be getting a decent amount of snow over the next few days. Hopefully it turns out to be even more (as it often happens in Whistler).

Dumbo hot sake = stoked!

He sure is, haha. Chantelle and Finney.

A bad photo but you get the idea.
