The Shred 2011 - It’s a Wrap - Thank you, photos & vids

I was thoroughly disappointed with the prices they were charging for lift tickets when I was down there over the weekend. Had access to bugger all terrain yet they were still charging way too much. My buddy Marc who came over from perisher for the day was just laughing at how little snow there was compared to perisher.

I don’t think you could actually call it a ride out either.. ollying over rocks and skimming over ponds to get down to the bottom was pretty ridiculous (it was fun don’t get me wrong), but I felt bad for anyone who was riding on their own gear and also the beginners out there as it wouldn’t have been any fun at all for them.

The late season prices at Thredbo for the conditions they had were an absolute joke. One of the reasons I’ll be supporting Perisher from now on.

although day tickets at PB are still $109 for only a few lifts open - no BC or Guthega or smigs .......

The cover was way better at Perisher during the Shred. I’m not trying to justify the price at Perisher but they were offering a better product.

Yeah am pretty sure only smigs was closed. And the interceptor. Pretty sure all other major chairs and runs were open.

I took beeseekay over to Perisher the Wednesday after the Shred and it was AWESOME! Fresh tracks everywhere on Kamikaze was a nice surprise (more than a foot in places), and that was on the last day Blue Cow was open!

That’s probably part of their EXTREME RIDE OUT facilities designed to improve YOUR riding LOL

haha I didn’t really have a problem with it - given I was on a demo board made it easier to deal with. Had I been on my own board I would have been furious that it wasn’t even signposted that there would be such poor conditions lower. Whistler end of season they signpost it all and advise downloading on lifts when it’s not even half as sketchy as it was there.

Even up the top it was so marginal in places I ended up unstrapping and walking at one point because there was NO cover in places where runs were meant to link up. All it would take is for patrol to go and put a up a few signs stating run closed etc… it’s not that hard to do.

Not that hard to do - but the resort would then have to admit what runs were actually closed!!

Should have seen Thredbo yesterday!
I didn’t take my camera up, but during the chair ride down I saw a half dozen people on the supertrail snowboarding up to 100m on grass on steep sections - being spring the grass is getting long enough to cover small rocks and dirt, grassBoarding at its best.
The snow was down to mid station, you could shred to there without hitting dirt/grass - they should have had it open.
Same deal with Antons, Sponars and Karels-Tbar. I was a sick day and the snow was great at that height.
KT are such jerks. It was poor form and a waste of facilities.
But thats Thredbo, being jerks are what they are good at.
