Mits, Gloves or Lobster claws

Avatar

Simple question, whats everyone use or prefer.

When I am riding warmer conditions I usually use my gloves but when its -20 or more and I am out I definelty like the warmth of a good ol pair of mittens.  I have yet to actually try lobsters style, they feel comfy enouph at the store but have yet to actualy buy a pair.

What are your thoughts, Did I miss anyones special style?

mitts all way for me - I tend to ride in colder conditions and the mitts (with the inners) do the job - if it does happen to be warmer then I just remove one of my inners.
Dexterity with mitts is a bit of a minus but I place warm hands over dexterity.

gloves all the way, havent had the chance to try mitts yet… lobster claws haha havent yet seen a pair…

I’m definately more of a gloves person, but I have a couple of pairs of mitts. In super cold conditions I have a pair of AK ovem mitts, sooo toasty.

I use both, when it is warmer I am glad to be in gloves, but mitts are definitely warmer.
there are many mitts that feel like a glove on the inside, so nice. It is definitely added layer of warmth because the glove fit insulates all around and between your fingers, and then an additional layer around it all.

If any glove or mitt causes your hands to sweat then it is too much.
Sweat in your glove will cause COLD hands later.
this moisture from your body gets absorbed into the glove, and then the cold weather causes it to freeze. then your gloves are frozen, and wont keep you warm like they did.

The lobster claw is funny looking and different, but you get like half glove functionality with half mitt warmth, nice.

I layer my gloves like I do my clothes.
I interchange liners for gloves and mitts in many different ways.
Take apart all your gloves and mitts and seewhat goes with what, find a nice comfortable style, and once where you can tak a layer off if it warms up!

I tend to use the Burton power stretch liner with most gloves, but then that would be the first to go if I’m too warm.
this is basically a tight fitting thin polyester glove that I use as a ‘first layer’ glove. Even under my mitts.
Very nice on burly cold days.

Dont let your gloves / mitts limit you, mix ‘em up!

Here is one of burtons lobster claw style mitts.  I have seen it where one fingure is seperate and then a style where its two and two.  Concept is good, more mobilty then mitts and warmer then gloves.  In theory.

what a radical concept, wearing mitts when its colder! its like they were designed for that or something

i actually hate mitts, the lack of dexterity kills me, but i love the lobster claw style, i wear ronin mighty mitts most of the time, i just add a fleece liner when its super cold

I rock Swany mitts on cold days. Have this zipper that lets your hands out easy so you have dexterity in your fingers when required. Nice concept and it works!

oh sweet, i had his star trek image going on…

Prefer gloves for movement in hands but mitts definitely are nice and warm. Those lobster claw mitts are something different…

A mate of mine was using some that he picked up at gas station a few years back, Big old leather clunkers.  But he swore by them.  I will try some out when I move back to Canada, but thats a few years off.

I had gloves, then mitts for a while in the mid 90’s, now back to gloves again.
I like the dexterity you get with gloves, easier doing up ratchets etc.
I will give it to you that mitts generally keep your hands warmer, but with the materials they use today my hands stay quite warm and dry in my gloves.

Definitely gloves, I can’t stand not being able to move all my fingers

I normaly wear gloves, but mits are so toasty for those super chilly days

I’ve never seen Lobster Claws, they look cool. I generally fo with Gloves, I never seem to be able to find mitts that fit right- usually too small but I probably look in the wrong places.  Where is good to find Lobster Claws?

Mitts.

Been using the Burton ones, but I have to say that they are probably Burton’s weakest softgoods. Mine start to shred in less than a season, and I’m lucky if I get two seasons out of them.
