i skated briefly as a youth
i know the concept of an ollie i can only do it properly 50% of the time
my nosed snapped on my board while learning how to kick flip (i think…long time ago)
any way none of my mates skate so i never bothered getting a replacement
snowboarding however
started 4 years ago
about 60 odd days under the belt
got some many mates into it…hook line and sinker
pretty much all of them rock their own gear even though they only do 1-2 weekends a year
i really want to get into wake boarding cause well….its cheaper than snowboarding
I had my first slide at 21 in 2007. So 4 years for me.
Only a total of 16 days though, and 7 of them have been this year alone!!!
I’ve always wanted to go snowboarding and surfing but there’s no surf in Darwin and I haven’t had the chance to visit a place that snows
Well, Where The Bloody Hell Are Ya, BKM????
Get on down to the mountains!!!!! Mate, you’ll love it even when ya not ridin them!!!!! There is no place that gives ya such a buzz as snow covered hills!!!!!
Pay for my flight, accommodation and gear and I’m there! haha
bodyboarded 4 about 8 years, then pretty much gave that up, about once a summer i get out on the mal n go 4 a surf, i started snowboarding last year was down there 4 a week, then went 2 canada at the start of this year, now im having my second run at snowboarding there and done 5 days of riding so far
Skiing since I was a juniorburger, switched to snowboarding when I was around 14/15…. So that’s 14 years riding I guess
Does this make you a Fillet O Fish now, Billy????
Hahaha, yeah! Or an old chicken nugget!

Haha love it! I am sure you are not that old!!
I have been boarding since 1997! Yes snowboarding!
That was when I first strapped on a board. Have done it occasionally since, usually when I am out with beginners. I usually go one step forward each time I try and then feel like two steps back when i next get on a board. It can’t get passed the frustrations of being a beginner though.
I have been twin boarding for 30ish years - consequently I don’t remember learning to ski which is why learning to board might be hard?
I also have soooo much to learn with skiing that I really want to master that & I really can’t afford to support two winter habits!!
But to be honest I just love being at the snow so much i don’t care what you ride, ski’s, board, snow blades, mono boards whatever…. i don’t judge!
4th season snowboarding but only about 17 days in total! Wish it were more!!!!!!
Started in Dec 2010. So I have done 2 seasons of snowboarding with a total of 35 days. Aiming for around 30 days this coming season.
I’m really keen on snowboarding as well now!
First attempt at boarding was last year June 28 2010. What a disaster. I learned really fast that jolly (replace jolly with a bit fat) middle aged men find it really hard to bend down constantly to undo and re-strap in their bindings, not to mention getting up from sitting on your heelside. However realizing that I was addicted to snowboarding meant that something had to change. The rest of that week, was mainly made up of me attending lessons on a hire-board and wishing I was fitter.
Cue movie cliches of time passing (desk diary fluttering, sunrise/sunset etc)...now a year later I do about 5 hours on a strider a week, eat healthy, workout at the gym (legs only) and do TK-Do. I have snowboarding to thanks for getting me up off my fat behind. Down to 80kg and I’m aiming at 75. The only problem is a now have a full set of fat snowboarding outer gear.
So this year and had another 5 days riding (lessons most days) have my own board and things have improved significantly. That’s 10 days all up, but I hardly count the first 5 cos I was such a noob.
Next trip looking forward to riding switch and really shredding it up.
MoonUnit
been standing on skateboards since I was tiny, but riding them regularly pretty much limited to a short period when I was 13-14 and a couple of months in sweden aged 27. Love the sport
Fell in love with bodyboarding aged about 5 but as a canberra grom never got to do it more than 4 or 5 times in year. Moved to Sydney and then cronulla aged around 21 and started bodyboarding every day. Still bodyboard regularly and ride a mini-mal when the waves are poo, too.
First stood on a snowboard for half a day aged 24, did another day in n.z. aged 25 and then about ten days in sweden aged 26. Then did a season in sweden where I fit 86 days in and have done about 20-25 days over the 2-3 seasons since then. I think about snowboarding ALL the time.
- Skied for half day in Japan 2007
- Snowboard 3 days NZ 2008
- Snowboard 5 days NZ 2011
Plan to go Thredbo 2 days this year before season is over.
