Thanks for clearing that up.
Thanks for clearing that up.
Scottish in origin.. couldn’t help myself
Thanks for the Heads up Jeremy. I’ll look into it tonight. I prob wont be able to leave aus until 2nd week of Dec.
Tj ill answer your questions later today when I get a chance
You guys are young. Jobs will come and go. Opportunities will come and go. You only live once. It’s something everyone should experience, at least once. When you’re over there you’ll know what I mean. TJ, you should get your ass over there too. I’ll debate this one till the cows come home! (that’s an expression, right?)
Exactly my thoughts and why I’ll be heading back again. I’m young enough to get a visa and work over there and the body is still capable of taking the daily punishment that I throw its way. The photos and videos that you see from there hardly to the place justice for what it actually provides. Being stoked on life for 6 months straight and living in a village full of like minded people is just awesome. As Jeremy said, jobs come and go but the experience of being there isn’t something money can buy.. I’ve got friends who came to visit last season and they’ve said it was the best and worst thing they could have ever done because now all they can think about is heading back there.
I can picture it now…
It’s mid January in Whistler. Teacher Boy has been spotted at the top of Peak Chair. He’s already done a lap down Doom and Gloom. He has a massive grin on his face. He bombs it over to VD Trees. Drops in and makes a couple of waist deep powder slashes in the trees. From below, Jeremy and finney hear K2 shouting…
“Best decision ever! Winning! Winning!”
As they spot Hugh Jackman flying through the trees.
<——K2 after the run in question.
I think of the best days of the season.. and they almost all included laps through there. The 150cm day after the week long storm was just perfect.. didn’t feel pain all day despite the fact that we rode for almost 5 hours straight.
p.s. you left out the part about the snow not sticking to his face because it’s too scared of the chiseled jaw line and 3 o’clock shadow that Hugh Jackman possesses, much similar but nowhere near as good as Mark Webber..

See I would love to do it. Few quick questions.
1. Are you guys planning to do it 2012/2013 winter? This would be much more suitable for me…
2. What sort of job / accom could you hook me up with? I have no certificate to instruct but could easily do beginner lessons (I have taught kids to play basketball for a year when I was 17/18ish)
3. Would it be possible to do December / January / February? Peak season job and leave when it starts to die down in March?
I will have about 6 weeks annual leave next year (which I can take for 1/2 the trip and then other 1/2 leave without pay) work over there for extra money (either instructing - might have to do a course in Aus next year… or photoshop a certificate together hahaha) or maybe a bar job at nights? (I have my RSA)
TBH 3 months would be optimal. I can still keep my job, rent out my room for a few months etc
Once I lock in 6 months, I have to quit here (which I don’t know how I’ll feel in 18 months) and I have to bail on my room etc and miss 6 months in Australia with all my friends here…

1. I’m not planning on it at this stage since I’m looking to make this next season my last, but thats well over a year away and much can change in that time.
2. Job - can’t help there unfortunately as mine is already locked in from previous seasons and they new starter positions are all gone (unless you get over there in october for the job fair) There are jobs that come up mid season with people leaving to go back to uni. Accom - could possibly be able to help you find something but wouldn’t be able to guarantee it since most people book in for the whole 6 month lease.
3. It doesn’t die down until late april Mid Feb to the end of March was actually the best riding of the season this year.

1. Was sort of worried this could be the answer… I wouldn’t do it by myself, I did Jindabyne like that and although it worked out well for me, I could have done it better.
2. Of course, if I was planning to do this, I would ring up Whistler jobs etc in like Feb / March next year and talk to them about it. I would also have to get the ok from my boss here to take 3 months off work. (Probably convince them to take a Uni student for 3 months as like a work experience thing, train them up myself and then leave and come back to my job without much hassle.
3. If I was planning to do it, I would find the best dates for Whistler jobs and then go from there. I could easily live off a sofa bed etc if someone wanted really cheap rent etc so that could work
Do it man, i would love to throw in my job and go over there and never come back lol….
I loved every mintue of it over there and wished i didnt have to come home .... I’m hoping that work will sign me off early after my tafe is done, than snowboarding till my days are over.
FML…......
You can always go into staff housing if you need. It’s relatively comfortable, you meet a lot of new people, and the rent is super cheap.
The big issue is finding a job for only three months. It can be done if you’re there for the start of the season and you keep your mouth shut about leaving early. It’s not something I’d recommend but I know it happens.
Most employers and land lords are onto the Aussie three month workers. You can imagine how many Australians come over for a couple of months during Uni break or whatever. They are all looking for a bed and an extra income source. Employers and land lords will always look for people doing the full season.
Planning ahead will solve most problems.
Damn! If I had an opportunity to go snowboarding in freaking Canada for 3(?) months I wouldn’t hesitate a moment!
(It would require some planning though :p )

Yea… thats the main problem is that I would want to be upfront about it and would therefore probably cost me a job… unless I did the sneaky by going at the start of the season lol… but then I’d miss out on 1/2 of peak season and the hours would be random and shit.
Please dont go without me Teacher boy, this song will be in my head until you return to me!!!!!!!!!!!
There is even more incentive for me to get out of this country!
