Went into see a sports doctor this morning after getting x-rays last week for my foot which was a major issue at the end of my season in Whistler. Basically couldn’t ride and even just wearing boots was an issue. Since getting back I’ve put my boots on and have been in agony within 20-30mins.
As it turns out I’ve got nerve damage in my foot and he’s said it’ll be 3-6 months for it to heal. Given it’s been well over a month since I last rode it means I should be good for next season in Canada which is good but at the same time I’m pretty disappointed that I won’t even get a fix this season down here. on the off chance that it’s not better by mid November he’s said to come back and he’ll give me an injection to kill off that nerve basically so it won’t be an issue in the future. On the upside though I’m pretty happy to hear that there’s no ligament or joint damage.
Pretty devo to say the least since it means that I’m out for the shred

You could still come down for the Friday night dinner, hang out with Just Giver in the pub on Saturday and be around the snow if you want. It’s only $135 for a bed at the shed
That sucks to hear fin but better safe than sorry… Im trying to make the shred, even if I am not boarding on the Saturday!
Sorry to hear it mate. Disappointing news but at least you know what it is now. I know it must have been very frustrating not knowing what the problem was. Given the serious pain you were in, nerve damage doesn’t surprise me. As you said, at least there’s no ligament damage. Not riding in Australia also rules out any chance of a freak injury. Just play it safe and heal up for Whistler. Disappointing news but you’ll be back before you know it.
Yeah!!!!! Ya gotta come and have a few beers with us!!!!!
(Shit news about ya foot too!!!!)
damn, sorry to hear that, finney! Injuries suck!
Reading what you wrote, I wondered why the sports doctor just doesn’t give you that injection straight away and then maybe you’d be good to go a bit sooner?

Because killing off nerves is never a good thing to do if you can help it.
^bingo, if I can let it heal on it’s own and have a good chance of a full recovery then I’ll give it a shot. He’s said that there would be very little side affects from losing that nerve so it’s good to know it’s there as an option down the line but it’s not ideal obviously.
I may come down for the shred, will just see how things are going with work at the time, not to mention being around the snow and not able to ride sounds more like torture to me than anything else haha

This is also definitely on my mind as it’s how I did my LCL last year, just one freak accident and 2 months of physio. I’m definitely looking at this as a chance for the body to get a good break and to keep strength up for whistler. Also as you said it is good now just knowing what the problem was and how I can look to avoid it next season (non snowboard boots for work etc).
I’m also thinking of going to get that section of my boot punched out a bit aswell due to how wide my feet are which I’m guessing has contributed to this problem.
Winning!

What boots do you wear? My better half wears thirtytwo focus boas and they are perfect. No need to get them moulded or anything.
He wears 4E shoes for the width normally, which is the widest available apparently. (Unless you buy from the US, in that case their 2E is our 4E!)
sh!t dude that sucks, your not missing out on much snow compared to what you will get back in whistler anyway!
If you need help punching out an area of your boot, let me know.
bliz: I wear burton hails - they have been the best fit for me so have stuck with that model. Have tried on 32’s but they didn’t work at all for me.
Cheers Jeremy, I’ll be in touch down the line about that.
No good dude… hope it heals sweet for ya
That’s no good man, big devo
Man, That sucks!!!
