I stayed at the super 8 when i went back with mum and dad. they are pretty reasonable places.
Days Inn are pretty good too. Basic but you don’t need much more i say! (although i reserve the right to change my mind after i stay at the Hilton in Niseko in Feb!)
Not sure about the buses from the Days inn? But there would be one along Lake Tahoe Blvd.

NYE - they shut the road at Stateline and there is a huge street party and partying in the casinos

Ozgirl no need for flights, we have the hire car sorted from LA as we are planning on going through Vegas and Death Valley and the amount of different resorts I want to go to seems easiest with a hire car. If we do flights we get interairline deals that are better than anything available retail but maybe of interest to Deano!

When do you land in Tahoe?
I land in LA on the 22, planning on spending that night in Mammoth, board there the next day then maybe head up the arvo of the 23rd or possibly the morning of the 24th, then we are there till the 31st when we go down to LV, thats the plan at this stage anyways. Flights are now booked but still haven’t done the accom thing yet, girlfriend is waiting on some industry rates to come back and we will make our decision then.

Long range forecast / discussion…December 17 to 20
—We should see chances for snow every 3 days or so through Christmas (next possible storm next Mon/ Tue ~19th/ 20th). However, if the ridge of high pressure along the west coast and eastern Pacific breaks down as is possible, we could end up with a more west to east flow across the Pacific pre-Christmas, for possibly more frequent and significant snows. There is a near 50/50 chance of that scenario developing before Christmas, and we will watch/ update on it.
We have a moderate La Nina SST pattern in place through the winter period, probably peaking in January, and weakening after January and into the summer. This is combined with some other important factors, like a cold PDO. We do expect winter to stay as we move in toward the second half of December. The southern Hemisphere was affected by colder and more “snowy” than average weather overall during our summer. We will be talking about what all this means for the upcoming season, and are working on coming up with a good outlook (we apologize for the delay). We will update the long range forecast, and talk about the influence of La Nina and other factors on coming patterns this upcoming season as well. CM
