The BOARDWORLD Forums ran from 2009 to 2021 and are now closed and viewable here as an archive
Like most people, I don’t compete in boardercross or gs so I only wax when my board gets ‘hairy’. Only one type of wax at a time for me. Being waxed up only helps on flats or cat tracks. If I want to go faster on a run I turn less
So do you guys just use one wax at a time?
I play with a few different waxes in layers.
Have a look at the cross country folks websites and forums, they are the masters of waxing !!!!
I used to layer when I lived back east (US), but I had to deal with a lot more variations of warm cold ice and hard conditions. These days I just mostly worry about good temp range as I never plan if I’m staying in the trees, going deeper, or sticking trails. What’s your favorite website for layering?

Better Off Dead Quote “Go that way, very fast. If something gets in your way . . turn.”
Hahaha, love that quote!!!!
Most of our amazing winter here in Australia I just use a fluro, but come spring time and the slush is here, I start to layer the wax.
Hotham has some flat bits that you need that little extra. Its the difference between sliding and hiking.
My kids race GS and Boarder cross, so of course I want them to be going as fast as possible.
Don’t have any favourite sites about layering (are we talking about waxing here?) I learnt heaps off my boss as well, he used to race World Cup Boarder Cross.
Me, I just love going fast !!!!!
share your layering recipes.
Yes Tambazz share the love please.
Now that I have bought my own set up and I’m there for the season any insider tips will be much appreciated.
Don’t know if I’ll be waxing every day cos that sounds like a lot of time and effort - maybe every third day, what do you think Tambazz?
I use a base cleaner, then a fluro, then some stuff that cost more than gold.
Iron the first two on via dripping, scrape, buff, have this awesome buffer that goes in the cordless drill, the last one I rub on then iron in.
I don’t have a set rule for when I wax, you can tell when your stick needs a little TLC.
BD4, got got all the gear to tune now? and have you got a good place to do it?
How long does your wax treatment take to apply.
And how long does it last?
Ummm, about 20 - 30 minutes I guess.
We have a family of six who all ski and board, so I just head into the workshop after dinner and have a waxing session with a few glasses of wine.
I take lots longer when I get the kids racing boards and skis tuned, an hour on a board.
On my board, I usually get a week - week and half, depends on the snow. Man made rips the wax out fast.
For the most part our snow is wet and wax is super important to get along the many tracks and flat bits we have at Hotham.

I have got pretty much all I need for a wax & edge maintenance.
Just need to practise on my old board now so that I can see how I go.
Was going to try to drop into Mordy’s or something to see if they could show me the ropes, but spare time is hard to find at the moment.
Check out the Snowboard Waxing Guide.
Very soon we will be filming an in-depth tutorial on snowboard waxing, covering everything mentioned in the guide. This should be ready in the next few weeks. We will also be filming an edging tutorial, covering the basics of a hand tune. I’ll let you know when the videos are up.
thread revival!
the blue swix wax you guys use is the universal/alltemp F4 stuff?
Yes it is.
how long does it last on manmade snow and australian snow… like the groomed stuff?
No more than a few days (probably 3-4 full days days at max).
