BINDINGS

FOOTBEDS FOOTBEDS FOOTBEDS

With anyones set up the most important items are the ones closest to your skin. It’s like a chain - if you have a weak link you will be reducing the connection to the snow.

i1. Buy good socks, burton socks are good but I prefer X-skins, they are heavier wool and help with circulation - pricey at around $60 a pair but worth it. (if it’s mentioned it’s worth it it’s because they ARE!!! - I’d pay more) NEVER WEAR TWO PAIRS OF SOCKS IN BOOTS - NEVER
2. Footbeds once you use footbeds you’ll wonder why they aren’t standard (they aren’t because then boots would cost more) - worth it. soooo woooorth eeeet.

Before selling your boots buy these ^2 items, put them in your boots, do a heap of foot exercises ie; go for a 5-10 min run to get the muscles in your feet full of blood, then try them on - you said you take size 9 so they may not be to small. Also when you increase in altitude your feet tend to swell - it’s why they tell you to wear comfy loose clothing on aeroplans, it’s also the reason many people find their boots fit great in the shop but complain they are too small when they get on the mountain. It’s also why many people have to stop after a run or 2 and adjust their boots.

Even then if they don’t feel right get a qualified ski boot fitter to check them out - they can insert small spacers that make huge differences.
I take a size 9 but managed to get a pair of size 11 to fit well thanks to one of the best boot fitters in the country (RIP downer ). I wore them for 2 seasons.

3. Bindings.
4. Board.
5.Wax/Edges.

Many people don’t follow this order and buy a good board, cheap bindings/boots and wear sports socks or worse. They then give up on snowboarding because they are uncomfortable or think they can’t ride.

This order should be applied when booting up as well - socks on with no wrinkles (NONE AT ALL) and even pressure around your foot once in the boot before lacing up.

As for lace ups Mizu is correct. The only problem is replicating the pressure and fit each day.

If you do get new boots spend half the day in the shop, take your socks/footbeds and bindings!!!, keep your feet swollen (exercised) and try every brand that you can get your foot in. Then narrow down the choice down in stages and be prepared to pay for the most expensive - usually you end up paying mid range but be prepared. Put your footbeds in every boot you try on. (Tip - get the sales person to do it because you will sick of putting them in and out)
And try BOTH boots on when you narrow the selection down.
DON’T SETTLE FOR GOOD ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take your boots when checking out bindings. Nothing worse than buying bindings your boots wont fit - that caused me a busted calf muscle.

And do you know what, despite that info spaz just mentioned you will still get the muppet who won’t listen and buy an expensive board over good boots. Oh well their pain.
But yeah some great info Spaz, well written.

good advice there,

but i dont wear stupidly overpriced “snowboarding” socks, i have worn work socks/skate socks/ankle socks hell i once wore an ex missus’ pair of stocking socks and not once has it ever caused me any trouble. imho those socks are unneccesary and just a marketing gimmick. get a good a pair of explorer socks or the like and you will be right. but i have a mate with poor circulation and the specialty socks work for him,

I must just be lucky but my boots fit mad stright out of the box(soloman f20), never had soreness at all, at lunch some mates have to undo their boots but i leave mine done up most times(sometimes undo them so i can walk half normal).

the most important thing, which has been covered heaps of times, is take whatever socks you intend to use in the snow and use them when trying on boots. and dont just walk in try them on and go yep i will take them, and out the door 10 mins later. take your time and walk around a lot.

^^^^ I have actually found that the Explorer Socks work the best for me also!!!!!

(Although I must note that I haven’t yet tried the socks that spaz mentioned!!!!!)

I couldnt wear explorers! My feet would get too hot, and i hate wearing thick socks in my boots

I have some branded snowboard socks i usually wear so they really do help with comfort compared to my older wooly socks i used to wear.

The cheapest of the Burton socks work great for me. Used to use any old sock, but that really sucked in comparison.

We don’t have any issues with Australian online stores. The issue comes from overseas stores and websites such as eBay. We take this stand to support the Australian industry and the retailers.

Here’s the link for the socks: http://www.torpedo7.com.au/products/T7SCSN0SS/title/torpedo7-wool-snowboard-socks—-2-pack

Looks like they’re having a sale; two pairs for $9. Thanks for the recommendation, redjames.
