Working in canada 2018/2019 - Few Questions

Looking to work a season in 2018/19 once i finish my uni degree. Thinking whistler being a lifty but open to other suggestions if anyone has any experience. 

Mainly just wondering what the work life is like? Do i physically need to be over there to interview?

Any other advice people can offer will be appreciated!

i know its early but i am thinking about getting organised and having everything in place sooner rather than later.

It definitely helps to be in Whistler to apply for work but you the can apply for some jobs before you arrive.  Whistler Blackcomb have an employment section on their website with lots of useful information and online applications forms for current postings so i recommend to keep looking at this leading up to your arrival in Canada.  https://www.whistlerblackcomb.com/employment  The Whistler Chamber of comerce is also a great resource https://www.whistlerchamber.com/membership/employment-resources/  Most big hotels and food and beverage employers will have a job fair so once you have narrowed down the work you would like to do you can start inquiring

Jobs are not hard to find but affordable housing is my best tip is to arrive early and apply for jobs that have staff housing.

Definitely have a read of the Canada Mega Thread. Also check out this Whistler thread from last season. There’s a lot of good info in these threads.

Whistler is a bit different to other resorts in that the demand for jobs and accommodation is extremely high and competitive. It’s a lot easier to get a job than it is to find accommodation. If you’re thinking Whistler is where you want to be, my strong recommendation is to get here early, be here for the job fairs, do whatever you can to line up staff accommodation (through a job with Whistler Blackcomb). At least you’ll have somewhere to stay and a starting point for your time in Whistler. Upgrade your life from there.

You’re thinking the right way… plan ahead, get everything ready, and get on the ground in Whistler early. Make sure you are here for the job fairs. You can always try to wing it, but this approach is becoming harder with each passing season in Whistler, unfortunately. Straight up, there is a housing crisis here. Just keep that in mind and have a plan.
