I wonder if they had their fishing rods packed?
shit this sounds good
Sounds like my territory last week when the cat broke it’s welding.
Something tells me this sounds a hell of a lot better than the ford you are driving
That “something” is most probably right.
Strewth!!!!!
faaarrrrrrrrrk
Oops!!!!!
That must be viral because I saw it on another forum. Apparently the guy walked away!
If you listen; just before it gets sideways, the engine loses power. Might have been an engine failure that caused it.
As per my stoke today (and to keep my posts on topic).
MY68VW is home.
Had to trailer it back because it has no rego due to some rust issues and it will be off the road for a couple of months while I get it looking pretty. The rust issues isn’t the surface stuff you see on the roof.
Trentradpants asked for some engine pics. There’s no bling but it’s pretty where it counts (internally);
EFI 2.2L aircooled Porsche boxer engine.
Machined/balanced/lightened crank.
Port/polished heads.
Oversized valves.
Dual spring rockers.
Hydraulic lifters.
Oil cooler with valve switch (normally a race car mod).
and other go fast bits. In all it’s double the horsepower of the stock porsche engine.
Does a big arse pod filter count as bling? lol
Superbox/diff will handle in excess of 300hp (no it doesn’t put out that much).
Custom built, straight through, 2½ inch exhaust.
Deep sump.
Everything important for driving is new; fuel tank, 4 wheel discs, sway bar, suspension, bushings, all the plumbing (fuel, brakes etc..) and of course the engine and gearbox.
Microtech engine management computer and it’s ready to have twin turbos bolted in.
Not sure I want them, it has plenty of get-up-n-go as is. Twins would add 30-40% power.
Spent the arvo stripping back paint.
sticky please
sounds the goods spaz, i think go the turbo route for shits and giggles.
My boss has a similar engine setup in his wagon like yours, except he went the ‘bling it out’ setup. Looks good and is way too fast to be a VW. If yours is the same, i hope you have some big old discs to stop it
Discs on all 4 wheels and it weighs 900kg so pulls up nicely.
They are standard type3 size which is the preferred size used by 300hp race beetles. I’m assured they are good enough but I wouldn’t mind having them bigger but that would mean replacing the wheels and some fabrication costing big $.
It would be rare if your boss has a similar engine to mine - as far as I know there aren’t many that have done this conversion, anywhere.
note: mine isn’t an upgraded type1 engine (standard beetle, type 3, kombi), it’s a type4 engine from the Porsche 914, 912 and VW Type4 and late VW buses (before kombis went watercooled).
I had to get the superbox/diff because it kept stripping the gears on a standard box under normal acceleration (no burnouts or energetic launching). Now I’ll be able to pop the clutch in confidence and see what it’s really capable of.
Have you been for a ride in your boss’s?
VW’s deliver power in a different way to normal cars and driving them is unique.
A stock beetle from the mid 70’s has no problem keeping up with cheap, modern 4cyl cars.
I figure mine should be on par with a GTi Golf.
For giggles and bragging turbos would be fun. They would definitely result in shits by my passengers and me, shits from being scared!
And I wouldn’t want the WRX seats to get skid marks.
Taking parts off my68vw today.
With everything off the door; it revealed some unexpected rust.
Same when I cleaned the body under the front wing (¼panel).
But the worst is on the front pillar (looks like I’ll have to get the window removed so I can weld in new metal).
All up I’m impressed considering it’s sat outdoors, not far from the ocean for 3 years.
