What was your first car?

Avatar

I would love to hear what everyones first cars were. Some of you older buggers may even spill on all the different cars you had over the many years.

Mine was a 1975 Holden Kingswood, sedan with a little V8.

Ass!!!!!!! While you created this thread I wrote this in the Daily.

HQ Kingswood station wagon was the first car registered in my name, 6cyl, 3 on the tree and a front bench seat so my girlfriend could snuggle under my arm while we drove.

253 - impressive Azz.

I drove our HZ 308 Premier to Adelaide from Sydney then back along the GOR in my first year of driving - mum was my co-driver and on the Hay Plains she kept encouraging me to bust 150km/h - I was on my L’s

The first car I bought was much earlier. At 15 I bought mum a HJ 4 door GTS (Morano??).
It was just after mum and dad broke up. The only condition I had for mum to use my trust fund was I choose the car. Why she sold that for the Premier I don’t now.

BTW - they are all Kingswoods people!!!

253 isn’t a little V8 in my books Azz.

It’s the best V8 made in Oz - after all it’s the same case as a 5L with a smaller stroke so it has a higher rev band and more torque.

I love 253s! I rekon they sound better too grin
My mate had a HG Prem 253 3 on tree with bench, was a ripper car.

My first car was a Holden VS sedan 3.8l Many good times in that car cool smile

The 253 was good, I sure gave it a flogging. Putting the four barrel carby and manifold on was brilliant, but I must say when I slid the 308 with a mild cam under that massive bonnet, well hell yes the good times really kicked off.

Mine was a yellow, 2 speed auto 1973 toyota corolla, which was a hand-me-down in the family since brand new.

Was my great aunt’s, then my aunt’s, then my sisters, then my brother & his wife’s and then it was mine…and then it died.

2 speed auto meant I could get to 80 in first gear when the transmission fluid was running low. It was a great car & super cheap to run.

since then I’ve had a ‘89 laser & now I’ve got a ‘94 subi impreza wagon.

2002 Holden Astra, which I still have!

5 door hatch back, just put roof racks on with snowboard attachment. Manual with body kit and alloys. Ooh little run around car but comfortable enough for long trips. Other car is a 1998 VT Commodore Supercharged S pack. I love it, poor thing is getting old though. Just put racing bucket seats in a year ago, so hot!

I looked for over 3 months for my first car, I knew what I wanted and took me ages to find one.  Got a 1986 manual VL wagon, one owner, 160,000kms in 1997 for $4500.  I loved that car for 2 weeks before some wanker ran a red light and T boned it to death, looking back I was pretty lucky I didn’t wind up dead as well, he hit the front quarter panel that hard it snapped the front axle, pushed the engine half a foot from centre and stove in the front quarter almost 2 feet, if that had been my door I would been cactus, as it was I got out with a bump on my head from hitting the window and that was it.

Took me another 3 months after insurance paid out and I picked up an auto version of the same car but it had a 6 stacker in it which I was stoked about.  That lasted 3 years till I did a surf trip to Vic and some lowlife farkers stole it, crashed it and wrote it off.  So many memories from that car, I did so many trips in it up and down the coast, got slept in heaps and only ever let me down once when a crank angle sensor needed replacing.

After that I bought my first and last sedan, a 1992 VP SS, to this day I still love how the Holden 5L sounds, I had the rear muffler removed and the sound was great.  I only had that car for about 18 months before I got a new job that came with a car allowance.  I walked into Holden the idea of buying a new wagon, I discovered tey were around $42K for bog stock with nothing, the sales guy then pointed to the SS ute that was $45K and came with all the bells and whistles.  No prizes for guessing what I chose.

I had that car for almost 5 years, did the exhaust and a couple of other bits and pieces in that time.  Was a nice car and took me all over the east coast again, decided to get rid of it before I moved to melb and sold it to a mate for what I owed on it and a case of Corona.  He still has it to this day and loves it.

Got down to melb and was given an XT Falcon sedan as a company car, that lasted 2 weeks before I started to go insane.  I emailed every Holden dealer in metro Melb stating what I want and picked a new SSV manual Ute a week or so later with the same options for $1000 more than I paid 5 years earlier.  This car spent a fair bit of time getting full exhaust CAI tuned new clutch etc, gets about 256rwkw which is just fine for a daily driver.  She’s getting a little long in the tooth kms wise, up around 115,000kms after just over 3 years, vast majority hwy driving to Mt Buller and Phillip Island plus 12 or so Melb to Sydney and Qld trips.

At a complete loss as to what I want next, I have always liked the Suby XT Foresters but wasn’t sure what they were like on a daily basis.  Finally convinced a mate to buy one and he loves it, kinda leaning in that direction but also thinking about WRX’s, Nissan Pathy’s and Navara’s.  I briefly considered a Maloo and a Clubsport wagon but way overpriced IMO and I’m kinda leaning away from V8’s due to the amount of kms I do.

I do love the practicality of utes but I’m 32 and at that stage where my next car could quite possibly have to double for family style duties in the next 2-3 years so 4 seats is kinda a requirement.  Problem with the dual cab utes is the tray is not big enough for surfboards as I like being able to lock them and my wet boardies and wetsuits in there without the wet dog stink permeating through the cabin like in a wagon.

My priorities would be for 4 seats, capable offroad or at least a bit of on road performance, wagon or ute and roomy as I’m 6’3”.  The new XT Foresters seem to tick all the boxes, we had my mates on the beach and it went well but for some reason they just look a little pedestrian to me…............

I picked up a 1969 Chev Nova from a little old lady.  I bought it in 1995-96 it still had the original tires and they had heaps of grip still.  It was a straight 6 and was sweet.  It was a kinda dead grass green colour so I had it painted after about 2 years.  Will dig up a photo.

My parents bought me an Auto Hyundai Excel which I had for a year until my bro got his P’s and I got my Greens and could learn manual.

Then I bought a 1995 Mitsubishi Lancer LE (Limited Edition lol) which I ran for like 2 years until someone rear ended me, wrote it off and left a scratch about this long on his bull bar <———>

Then I had a 1999 Nissan Pulsar. I ran that into a Kangaroo coming back from Perisher. Got it fixed and sold it to some poor kid. I feel sorry for him lol.

Then I bought a 1993 Kawasaki ZZR250 which is still going strong.
