Skate Shoes of the Future?

Avatar

Just stumbled upon this Kickstarter campaign for something called the “Houkie”. Apparently you attach it to any skate shoe, and it protects the shoe from damage through flip tricks and whatnot. They’re hoping it lasts “four months” according to the description, which could be handy if you burn through a pair of $100 shoes every month.

Despite looking absolutely hilarious, I’m assuming they probably affect board feel too. Considering most skaters buy shoes for the fashion aspect—let’s face it, most people want their shoes to look good more than they want them to last long—I can’t see this taking off. Back in the 90s when big, chunky shoes were in fashion, they’d last you 6 months or more easily. If everyone only cared about their shoes lasting, they’d go back to giant chunky shoes, in my opinion.

Thoughts, anyone?

I agree; It will never catch on for so many reasons. They might get a few sales but this will never be accepted by the mainstream. Looks like their Kickstarter campaign is struggling too, which is rather telling.
