Hi BoardWorld Readers.
My name is Jason, Skateboarding Is my primary board sport at the moment. Followed by snow, then wake.
One of my passions is making high performance electric skateboards in my garage.
like this one:
and this one:
These bad boys can easily do up to about 45km/h and climb steep hills.
After years of lurking here you can see this is my first post at BOARDWORLD, the reason I am posting is to spread the word about a new forum I created specifically for people to learn how to make their own electric skateboards at home. Most of the “off the shelf” stuff is pretty lame. Mostly due to speed and torque limitations.
I always get mixed reviews when I show people my creations, many die-hard-skaters can get really defensive about skateboarding and ridicule the concept of installing motors onto something which works perfectly well without them. Is that you? if that is you don’t follow the link!
I think there are two types of people in this world…
1. people who HATE electric skateboards…
2. people who DON’T HATE.
So hopefully we can get some more people interested in eboarding.
We are an open and passionate community looking to share knowledge. So please feel free to join in on the conversation, no question is stupid when it comes to learning about how to build an electric skateboards.
Peace.
Hey Jason, welcome back on board.
Electric things are becoming a bigger presence on the horizon. Look at hybrid cars, it started with the Prius and now the likes of Mcalren, Ferrai and Porsche are doing hybrids. I work in a shop that also sells electric bikes which does get some people as you say “HATING”. The thing is though, it gets some people back on a bike who thought they never would be able to have a go again.
For me I will always be, as for as long as I can using my own leg power. Upon saying this I do appreciate the advances in what people are doing with skateboards, bikes and cars etc…
I will be keeping an eye on your thread though mate.
Take care.
Hey mate. Thanks for the reply.
I agree that electric stuff can be the bridge that gets some people back on the horse…
You often hear of cyclist who have a major knee injury and can’t peddle anymore, but with using electric peddle assist bikes they can keep movement in there body and stay actively riding without the high stress.
I believe the same goes for electric skateboards. There are plenty of old school dudes who spent years shredding the streets on their decks but now their body’s just aren’t able to push as hard. Often due to knee injury.
With electronics involved now people can stay active and do what they love for years.
So i don’t believe electronics is a threat to the years of boarding culture, style and the ethos that is very strong among the die hard supporters of the traditional non-powered sports… it is simply a complimentary new category.
So feel free to drop on and ask some question.
We have 4 or 5 of the leading DIY electric skateboard builders from Australia, USA, France and the UK all active on the http://www.electric-skateboard.builders forum ready to answer your questions.
Peace.
