I know there is a certain percentage that they are not allowed to increase over in one hit. Not sure what it is though.

And as i said i suspect they did not consult the owner, just saw I have no lease and haven’t had an increase since i moved in (2.5yrs ago!) and wacked it up.

well sounds like you can negotiate then. Do they know about the housemate? If they do you can explain the situation and try and sort something.
yeah um the housemate is a bone of contention with them… i try not to remind them I have one!
Not sure what it is in NSW, but in the ACT the percentage is based on the CPI index
I did some googling and there is no actual maximum allowed.
But you can fight an unfair/unjust increase if you want. Will see what the agents respond to today.
I may just move and suck up the almost cost prohibitive aspect of living by myself in a shoebox. Could not go back to living out west… I love where I live!
I think you would need to research the residential tenancies act to find out the best information… it is in the ACT’s one but I have never seen NSW’s.

my real estate agent tried to up my rent, told them no way i will move out.
That was the end of that conversation!
Meh I appreciate at it - I upped the rent on my tenants but not that much!
Heard nothing today.
It also costs money for my owner for lease prep (to sign a new lease!) so don’t know why she would bother.
6 mths ago I go a phone call from my agent - they had forgotten to advise me that the owner was coming to town (she lives in NY) the next day and would I allow her access.
I did - it wasn’t the owners fault!
She was really nice - about my age and was very happy I was living here. I would be surprised if she would let me move out. But I like the security of another 12mth lease.
Update on the above - no response from Real Estate.
But today I am Devo because my package from the states seems to have gone to the Burmuda Triangle rather than Australia as the last update on the tracking was leaving Houston on 27th July!!! No update since.

Dude I know all about the package frustration. I spent a fortune posting my best friend in Washington D.C. a xmas present that never turned up (postage was like $70!) and my snowboard addiction prize never turned up…the 2nd one is on its way, supposedly.

I ordered from Benefit in the US and twice the package went missing. They ended up refunding me (which was nice of them) and my friend did an order and it showed up in like 3 days! (not joking)
I never used to blag the postal service.
When I lived in the UK I used to send mum 50 pounds each month to make the min repayment on my CC. An actual 50 pound note in a birthday card each month.
Once I mailed it at like 5pm on a Friday and mum had it on the Monday!
But the last year or so i have had bad luck!
