Selects vs Drives… you can’t go wrong. If you want more response, especially through the highbacks, go for the Drives. If you’re looking for something a bit more forgiving and versatile, the Selects will serve you well. Let us know what you decide and how they perform. Again, welcome to Boardworld, mate!
Awesome. Thanks.
So where are you all riding?
I’ll be riding Whistler (and a bit of Cypress) this season. I’m currently living in West Vancouver.
Cool. My wife has relatives in Kamloops area. Never been up there myself, but I’ve always wanted to try BC out. I guess I need a job that occasionally puts me within striking distance of different mountains, just so I can plan that extra day of meetings lol.
I hope you guys are getting snow up there. Still waiting here, though there is enough to have a few groomers open.
It’s been a relatively slow start to the season here. There’s a lot of precipitation in the forecast for the next week, so hopefully it arrives and the temps stay cold. Watch this space. Let us know if you make it out to Whistler this season!
Still unbelivably warm here, but supposedly snow in the future. If it doesn’t come soon I am pulling out my 1990 Burton Free 6, just to see if I get any dumb looks. haha
Haha, I’d love to see a photo of that.
I thought I’d show my appreciation for the advice on this forum by giving a little feedback on the bindings I got.
So I got the drives last week and my first impression was that if I put my old bindings next to them, they will get eaten. those things looked like they were on steroids.
I was able to hit the mountain this weekend, and I have to say the bindings felt great. The response through the bindings was great. I had seen a couple reviews that thought the response was a bit slower, but I felt it was immediate and left no doubt in my head that I couldn’t get from edge to edge as fast as I want (or am still capable of. I’m a bit out of shape). The highbacks are definitely stiff and lend well to the responsiveness. I was glad fro the calfback. It definitely aided in the comfort of the highback.
Conditions were mixed. Tiny bit of powder (not near enough) choppiness and icy spots as well as soft almost slushy snow. All conditions were not a problem at all and the board felt stable at high speed and quick turns.
The only thing I could find that I didn’t like, and I tried to find anything wrong I could, was that the ankle strap was on its smallest setting and I still had it tightend most of the way. I know this isn’t much of a complaint, but honestly it was the only thing that bothered me in the slightest. That being said, I have the large bindings and my boots are size 10.5. My boots are also old and worn out quite badly. I mean I need new boots and I will not be getting anything smaller. If anything I need 11s, at least if they are the same boot. So I would also guess that these boots are also broken down enough to actually require cranking the strap a little tighter.
All in all, I definitely recommend the drives. They work very well, look great and seem to be very high quality workmanship.
Thanks for the feedback, Trabi. It’s great to hear you are stoked with the bindings. It sounds like you already have one possible solution to your minor problem in new boots, but if that doesn’t happen, you could also look at getting medium straps (I’m sure it can be done). It’s always tough when you’re on the borderline between binding sizes, unfortunately.
Most definitely sucks to be on the border line, but the footbed fits me perfectly so thats good. I thought of seeing about getting medium straps, but I will wait and see what I do about boots. I could get plenty tight and wouldn’t want to go tighter anyway.
But that did remind me of something I forgot… Making on the fly adjustments are so quick and easy. In the past I would set everything up and then be reluctant to change things because of having to get tools out. These straps are so quick with the toolless adjustment. I’m actually surprised I didn’t try the flippit straps both ways just because it would be so simple to do. I will have to try that next.
Im very much considering ordering a pair of NOW Selects to add to my YES 420. I think it would be a good combo with the Hi-Cup, or even no back on it at all.
I like my bindings flexy and free. Even for when im charging. Just makes me feel like I’m on my skateboard which I love.
I tried IPO’s while i was in Whistler and was so-so on them. I think it was the YES Jackpot i tried them on. Should have tried them on my board too to really feel the difference.
I was definitely griping on carves really well and it was responsive. but it was almost too much digging on the rails. prob just needed more time to adjust and use on my flat board.
Has anyone tried them in pow with no/cup backs on a pow board?
Also, I cant see when I will next get a chance to ride any powder, so its gonna kill me having my board sitting there waiting. So also finding it hard to justify money on bindings if i wont use them for another 6months-1years time.
That’s not that attitude to have young man, you go and buy those bindings right now!!!
haha, If i had an abundance of money I would!
Send me your board and i will get its powder fix for ya!
