Formula 1 2014
So the Formula 1 season officially kicked off today with practice in Melbourne! Pretty sure I’m not the only one on here that follows f1 so thought it might be fun to get a thread going.
Who do you want to go well this year?
Who do you think will win the first race?
What are you most looking forward to?
Personally I’m hoping McLaren have a better year than last year and that Vettel doesn’t win the championship for the first time in 5 years! I reckon Jenson has one more championship in him before he retires and Magnussen is looking pretty promising if his performance in testing was anything to go by.
I’m tipping one of the Mercedes - probably Hamilton to qualify fastest tomorrow (their car seems pretty solid and he has consistently posted good times through testing and in the first day of practice today). Wouldn’t surprise me if one of the Mercedes wins, though I’m quietly hoping it’s a McLaren!
I’ll be at Quali tomorrow and can’t wait to hear what the new turbo engines sound like. Had a few friends that were there today and they said that they’re heaps quieter, to the point that you don’t even need ear plugs anymore.
Also just gotta say I think the whole double points in the final round thing is rubbish! Either way, totally stoked F1’s are back!
i can hear them from my work, they def sound alot different now with the new engines.
Also a fighter jet did a fly over yesterday and FARKING HELL it was loud. Being in a war zone must be super intense!!
I dont like the sound of the new V6 Turbos, bring back the V8s!!!!

New engines are mega quiet! They’re quieter than the v8’s by a mile!
Trent you can probably hear the old 2011 f1 they’re using for the speed comparison, the new f1’s are practically silent. It’s so weird!
Stoked the F1 season is back! 
I really hope there is some more exciting racing this season with the changes in aero/grip. Failing that bring on the rain! 
Hearing the 2013 red bull do a lap just made the new hybrids sound silly, I do love a turbo though…
Nice to see some new names in the top 10. Button and vettel both got out qualified by their new younger team mates.
Once again got absolutely soaked! One day I will go to a qualifying where it doesnt rain…
My ex worked at an office building at Albert Park, when i used to call her it was pretty much all i could hear. And that was her sitting at her desk. Cant imagine trying to work through it.

I was skating St Kilda Road today. The new cars are so quiet compared to old ones!
The bloody fighter jet was deafening though! We had to stop filming and skating and cover our ears each time it did a section over us
That jet is seriously intense! It sounds like it is tearing the sky open.
So Ricciardo has been disqualified from the race due to exceeding fuel consumption. That means McLaren now finished 2nd/3rd. Stoked to see Magnussen do so well in his first ever race in F1, he is the first ever Dane to get on the podium.
Great start to the season! Hopefully Malaysia is just as exciting.

Just thought I’d add a few pictures from Malaysia. Awesome weekend but words cannot express how unbelievably hot and humid it was! Considering how cheap tickets were we bought two different grandstand tickets so did one for quali and another for the race.
Sepang Circuit
View from our grandstand on Saturday (before the rain). This is between turns 7 and 8. As you can see they get a pretty poor turn out!
Somehow i always end up at qualifyings that get delayed due to rain! It was a pretty hectic downpour, rain was coming in sideways. 
Race day! We were at turn 1. Perfect view down the main straight and of the pit exit. We could see about 2/3 of the track from where we were sitting. Only disappointing thing was that even in our grand stand (which is one of the most popular) there was hardly anyone there!
Guess I’m going to have to settle for watching the rest of the races on TV until Melbourne next year!
