Which mountain to work at??

Hi Guys!

I’m a 19 yr old from Melbourne and want to do a season working at a mountain in Canada… but not really sure which one? From reading through the threads many of you have done Whistler and it seems to be the recommended spot but I was wondering if there were other places you guys would recommend as well?

My problem with Whistler is that I won’t be able to go to the job fair as uni doesn’t end until early November so I won’t be in Canada until mid-late November… and from what I’ve read it’s pretty hard to find a job if you just rock up/come after the season has opened, is that true?

So in terms of other places I can go what would you guys recommend? I’m wanting to work somewhere that has a backpacker like atmosphere and a good nightlife, and I would be able to meet lots of other people my age. I’m not really fussed about what type of work I do, I just want to be able to find a job asap when i get there (however I know I’ll have a good amount of savings to tide me by for a while).

I’ve read about the working holiday club and other organisations that help set up job interviews and such for you but I’m not really comfortable with ‘wasting’ $1,000… I’ve also read that there are recruiters that come to Aus in June/July for recruitment fairs but I haven’t been able to find any links or info about this, does this still happen? Or can I potentially email employers with my resume and set up work from Aus?

I’m so sorry for all the questions!!!! legit any info would help me.
And I’m sure some of these Qs have already been asked/answered somewhere here so even if you could link me some threads that could help me that would be great!

LOL  tongue laugh thanks!!!

Hi Jade,

Welcome to boardworld.

This is a pretty comprehensive thread about working in Canada.

I would start here https://www.boardworld.com.au/forums/viewthread/13765/

I wouldn’t focus on one resort. There are many resorts that you can choose from without having to go through a working holiday club.

I was silly enough to pay to get a job but it really isn’t necessary. I work and Panorama Mountain Village In British Columbia. It’s a great central location to lots of local resorts. There are about 200 staff here and most of us live on the mountain. It is a quite resorts with no lift lines. I can supply an email for the human resources manager if you want to know more just pm me.

Hey Jade,
There are A LOT of mountain resorts in Canada. Some big, some small.
If you are after big mountains, British Columbia and Alberta are the main provinces to look in. Big mountains don’t always mean busy though. So if you are after a good night life to party at night, then you will have to narrow it down to a resort with a big population as well.

I currently work at Whistler and I can tell you it’s a big mountain (2 actually) with a great night life. However if you can’t do Whistler you should look to mountains similar to Whis.
The only other mountain I have worked at in Canada is Manning Park, and I loved it, but there isn’t a big night life.
Mountains I haven’t worked at but I know are pretty decent are: Big White, Silver Star & Revelstoke. They are big names, so I would think they would have a good party scene too. Hope that helps shaka

Sun Peaks is pretty good, at least 3 decent nights a week to go party and the staff always hang out together and have parties for not really massive reasons haha.

I got my job through skype and we had training on the 13th November. Some people came later to be lifties but it had to be organised.

Read this:http://carmenruiz409.wordpress.com/2014/02/25/we-are-sun-peaks/  which is a decent representation on life at Sun Peaks.
