How do I get to Perisher from Sydney?

I’ll be in Australia next week! I have never been so any info on how warm I should pack for would be nice. Google says that the coldest it’ll get is around 10C so that’s not too bad. I take it that balaclavas aren’t necessary for Perisher.  how is the snow there? is it all hard pack now?

Wind chill can get a whole lot colder than 10C if the weather turns!!!!!

I’d pack the gear ya normally wear at the snow!!!!!

Ya might get perfect blue bird days where ya wearin nothin but a hoody, and on the other hand ya could get torrential rain!!!!!

It’s the mountains, and they’re unpredictable!!!!!

But either way, I hope ya enjoy ya stay down under!!!!! shaka

* Make sure ya get yaself a meat pie too, as it’s tradition!!!!!

Hey RS

This is your best bet for weather, pretty sure it will get to at 0 deg… I think google was tellign the Hottest it will be is 10deg.

It is best to have full waterproof gear with you. Lockers if required are available for hire.

Would hate for you to be cold and miserable!

Mizu is right though wind chill makes it bloody cold some days! And a face cover is required, maybe balaclava is over kill!

Thanks for the tips guys!

I’m looking at the forecast and it seems like it’s gonna rain while I’m there, definitely going to have to bring a waterproof jacket.

I’m packing right now and using this topic here as reference

but I’d like to know if there’s a better way to store your bindings in a bag? I’m concerned if any other luggage is parked on top of my bag which forces the bindings to bear the compression load by themselves, and then they’d crack. Unfortunately I do not have a helmet; else I could put that in the middle and have it support the weight by itself.

I always fold the Highbacks down completely, then stuff the ankle strap into the heelcup area, and then strap up the toe strap so it ties down the end of the highback!!!!!

Then I usually put my boots in the bag up against the bindings!!!!!

In order to break the heelcup of the binding, it would have to be a fair impact, or the bindings would have to be pretty crappy to start off with?????

I checked out some of the snowboard packing videos on YouTube and say that all did exactly as you described. I take it that I should worry about it too much.

Also, know any idea of how much cash money I should bring?  I’m thinking $200 for meals and maybe souvenirs.

Depends on how long you’re down here for and when you say $200, do you mean “on top of money I’d need for lift tickets.”

$200 is more than enough for a day trip in the snow, lah.
=)

Yeah, all depends on how many days, where ya gonna eat, and where ya buy ya souvenirs?????

A little tip, Jindy will be cheaper for all of these items, and also look on the mountains website for advance lift ticket purchase discounts!!!!! (That is if ya haven’t already purchased them)

The cash money will be used solely for meals and maybe transport around Sydney. I’ve got a separate allotment for lift tickets and lodging. Is $200 sufficient pocket money for 5 days?

Also, do I need to cover the tip and tail of the board with clothes?  how about the edges?

OK.

So you’re in Sydney for 5 days from Sg and will do a day up to Perisher?

Is that what you mean?

If so where are you staying in Sydney? Do you have access to kitchen?

I would budget $100 per day to be comfortable in Sydney for food and stuff, and it should give you enough left over.

As for your board, will you bring it in a board bag? In most cases I wouldn’t worry about tip and tail protection in luggage, I’d worry more about gaper gashes you may get in line on the lifts.

Whoops, missed that part.

I’m flying in and out from Sydney but I’ll be spending 3 days at Jindabyne.

I’ll be using a wheelie bag for my board.

Okies.. well.. I still stand by what I said… but I’ve always been a man of comfort.

As for gaper gashes:

edit: fixed the vid

alright I’ll just called up the banks to allow my debit card to be used over there.

I cant see what’s in the video (must be because I’m on the phone though it’s never happened before) but I’m guessing it has something to do with people running their board over yours and ruining it in the process.

Hi RS,

for the 3 days $200 is certainly doable.

If you can buy breakfast ingredients from the supermarket that will save you. A box of cereal and some milk. All good!

The hill is where you will pay more. You will be looking at between $15 - $20 for lunch. Unless you only eat fries! Its about $6 for fires alone.

Do you board with a backpack? If so carrying snacks can reduce your cost. Also carry water so you don’t have to buy anything to drink.

What date is it that you are going?

$200 just for the 3 days portion?????

A bacon and egg roll with a coffee for breakfast, a pie and a powerade for lunch, then a meal in Jindy at an average joint!!!!!

Maybe leave ya with $20 to buy yaself a coffee mug or two in Jindy, with Straya, Mudbo, or Pooisher emblazoned on it!!!!!

Alcohol is a whole nother story!!!!! (That’s if ya drink)

If ya have a car, buy some alcohol in Sydney first, as the closer ya get to the snow the dearer it gets!!!!! And even buy some chips, drinks, lollies, snacks while ya at it!!!!! (Look for a Woolworths, Coles, or Aldi even better!!!!!
